This is exactly what I've been waiting for. I don't have an LPT and I don't have an original dump so all I can use is Xellous...This is perfect. I will be updating to 9011 or whatever it is very shortly!

If I used another smc_config.bin, my console wouldn't display its real serial number in the console settings right? But if it does, I have my own smc_config.bin? I followed a tutorial which I think lets you use your own smc_config.bin. This tutorial right here: Look at post 17 Thanks for your time.

What about rawkv.bin? can this be converted, or do we just extract kv_dec.bin with 360 Flash Tool?

That's right, use kv_dec.bin from 360 Flash Tool and smc_config.bin from this tool, in order to create your freeBOOT image. You'd still need to use crl.bin, extended.bin etc, from a different console, but the KV and config block are really the most important pieces of information you have in your console.

I would like to see this included in BestPig's Freeboot Toolbox Maker v2.2 That would be awesome. Then no need for ibuild or anything of the likes ever. BestPig's app already makes the new freeboot nand image for you whether you give it a XBR image or an original image, but it does use a donor SMC_config, so having this included would fix all issues and thus making freeBoot easy as pie. (It already is if you use this toolkit and have your original)

oh and the version 2.2 is in English and has a language selector to go back to French. So us 'Mericans can read it.

Wow look at all this crap u need just to run freepoot, all u need for XBR is ur KV.

What specifically are the disadvantages to using a donor config file?

I've already sent two boxes away after upgrading them and wondering if this really matters.

with xbr you also need your rawconfig data, but 2 problems with XBR compared to freeBOOT,
1) Stability is Better on freeBOOT then XBR. freeBOOT is more activly developed
2) latest XBR is only running 8955, where as freeBOOT is running 9199, not a huge deal really, as nothing really requires 9199 yet

only advantage that XBR really had over freeBOOT is that freeBOOT needed a dualnand solution(a Chip like cygnos), but it now works by booting from the onboard nand, so no chip is needed

yes, at the moment things are a little more confusing, but ultimately it boils down to wether or not if your a n00b and just want the easy way out, or you would rather do it right, it's up to you. Trust me in time all these tools will be simplified in time, and any n00b will have there fun. till then, theres allways XBR

1) temperatures reported are out of wack in my case cpu reported 11C higher using donor smc_config.bin
this could cause fans to spin up to early or not at all if it goes the other way
2) mac addresses on all boxes using same donor smc_config.bin will be the same
bad for more than one on a network
3) Basicaly any thing in this table below including UNKNOWN items will from the donor and not your xbox360

Why not just select the option in Flash360 to keep the existing KV and config? Surely this will do the same thing?

Ok so first off I already have a working version of freeboot install with donor files.

But when I use this tool to get my smc file from xellous and build a new freeboot and flash it, I get E72.

I'm using the same exact build files that are on my console now. I even reflashed back over to my original freeboot install and all works fine there.

Any ideas on whats going on?


Edit: Nevemind, I forgot to flash back to my XBR backup first so I wasn't using my actual sm_config file, I was using the donor file...
