I just received a free xbox and I am trying to repair it. It is giving an error 16 without the Microsoft logo. I tired hot swapping it so I could reload the dashboard but xplorer360 or xboxhdm does not recognize the HD. I have a friend who has a modchipped xbox and I have a spare 40gb hd. could I use his xbox to read my eeprom and set up my 40gb to put in my busted xbox?

You can chip the Xbox or build an Eeprom reader. Using the other Xbox won't work. Without the eeprom.bin from your Xbox, it is a doorstop.
Look at this to try hot swapping again.
