I have a problem and i need help. I bought a 30 pack of memorex dvd dl and they turned out to be the biggest waste of money. I used IMGBurn at 8x 6x 4x and 2,.4x. Before you ask i used a pack of verbatims at 2.4x and they were all succesful burns. I used the memorex at 8x 6x and 4x and i always get an IO error at the end and the disk sector could not be written. When i use XBC i always get a succesful burn but the disc plays but after an extended playthrough gives a dirty disc error. When i burn a 2.4x it reads but it WILL not start the game. now when i use XBC at 8x i get the same error as imgburn. Is there a specific way to burn memorex's???? i know verbatim is better but i have one succesful game with memorex. it was burning the whole time at 3.9x. out of 30, i already tanked 10 and had 1 succesful burn. i need tip on how to burn memorex's succesfuly. thanks

no trick to it man, either your dvd burner likes them or it doesn't.
i can tell you straight up, i have heard this same exact story about 30x
it seems most burners do not like memorex, because well they are junk.
bottom line the way to fix it is toss the memorex and buy some good disks.
if you must go cheep then try tdk

I think its highly dependant on your burner, I have a couple of friends who kept making coasters out of TDK discs, gave the rest to me and I burned them off fine. I am using a Samsung SH-203B which according to myce is a pretty good burner.
Trial and error I suppose!

TDK and Memorex are rebranded "Ritek" disks

memorex actually uses several media brands and rebrands them
To the OP
I suggest using Verbatims. You can get them on sale pretty cheap at sams club, they had 50 for $40, some people reported some stores selling 50 for $30!

I usually pick up fujifilm from futureshop, and price match the source lol
(fs always has stock)
$13.99 for 15 usually
I'd compare them to verbs without having to put out a shat load of money. I see verb 5 packs for almost $10 sometimes

I think it depends on the burner. I have used MANY memorex dl's and had zero problems with them. I use XBC and Imgburn. Burn at 2.4x. Of course I'm using an older pioneer drive.

Yup for sure as others said it depends of the burner because i for sure burned like 500 or more with memorex dual layer ohh and at 4x or somes at 8x of speed and not any problems as now (toc wood )

You either buy Verbatim (I see xboxdawg says he uses memorex, but I still feel safest with high quality when its roughly the same price) for $30-40 a 50 pack on sale when they are available, or waste your money risking the quality of your backups.
I have had the same pioneer burner for well over 5 years, and used only verbatim and have yet to burn a coaster with the combination.

i have burnt over 1000 memorex and had no problems
i always use a pioneer burner and always burn at 4x even on 8x discs well unless its a 2.4x disc
i have 3 different pioneer models and the all work the same
i'm going to try matrix dvd dl discs and see what happens...

I really think it depends on your dvd burner. Different drives like different discs.
Just have to find ones that your drive is compatible with.

I've only used TDK for my backups. The first 2 sets were great with maybe 2 coasters. Recently though I've had about 75% coasters from them. I'm leaving TDK and joining the Verbatim group with my next DL purchase.

Initially I used verbatim, but after not being able to find any good deals locally I switched to memorex and have only had 3 coasters (most likely my fault) out of probably 100 discs that I've burned. Hell, I just bought another 50 pack. I guess it really does depend on the burner, but I have used 3 different combinations of burners and they all burn memorex fine.

Funny thing I started with Fuji discs ( trial )no prob, then I came to buy verbatim hearing that they were the best. Then I bought some memorex seeing they were cheaper than the verbatim. NOW my pc won't take the fuji discs.

If people know how to shop you can get verbatims for $1 to $1.50 a disc. If you buy from Best(worst) Buy and other B&M stores you will pay out the ass + tax. Buy online like newegg.com, etc. check out fatwallet.com and find some deals on them, then all is good.

It's all about the burner/media compatibility. I was using a shitty laptop burner and I coastered like 23 Verbatim (Singapore) discs. So I went out and got an Optiarc 7240s and it's been smooth sailing since then. I'm even using the lowest quality discs there are. I coastered 20 or so discs but that was mostly my fault. Since I figured out what I was doing wrong I haven't had one coaster.

Exactly. We have a whole pinned thread here devoted to finding good deals on verbatim. You can even get the really nice 8x Verbatim discs right now for less than a $1 a disc from newegg. And unlike the cheap discs you don't need to try and burn as slow as possible to get the best results.
