I currently have 2 360s that have died on me. both elites. One is a banned 360 with a flashed dvd drive, the other is a non-banned with a flashed dvd drive.

I've had one repaired once, it worked for a while, then failed again.

when the second one died I asked the guy who flashed the drive for me and he said he can repair it, but it might just die again in 3 or 6 months...

So, is it possible to get a more long term repair for either of these machines or are they just scrap?

If they were 'fixed' with a heat gun, have someone reflow the chips with a proper rework station, then put remove the bolts/washers, and put the original Xclamps back on. Then do the 12v fan mod

A reflow is a better fix than having someone heat gun the motherboard. A better fix for long term would be to have a pro reball the motherboard.

Heat gun fixin' mobos decreases the service life because of heat damage to surrounding components, and like canisay mentioned, not the best way to repair a board.

Thanks much for the replies. Ok, reflow is better than heat gun(a lesson I should have learned with my first failed xbox360) smile.gif, but i guess the question is, some people tell me the life expectancy after a reflow is still only 3-6 months? Are there people out there who have had better experiences? say 1 or 2 years after a reflow, rather than 6 months?

so...are there more permanent fixes to a RROD?

as far as repair goes your best option is a reball but honestly I'd just pick up an Arcade for $150 to have a reliable board & a warranty.
