This is a copy'n'paste rebuild of deathx88's old thread, which overflowed.Updated--- 08-Jul-2010Current emulator version: 21
(Note that if a game doesn't mention which emulator version it was tested with, it was probably 13).Please note that some games that didn't work previously may now work. For example, Battle Arena Toshinden used to run, but the fighters were invisible with v13. Now in v17, using the 1.6 core, the characters are visible and the game runs very well. So simply because a game is listed as not working here, it may actually work now in versions 17 or later.
A big thanks goes out to ressurectionx, Retroplay, and sotu for testing out so many games!! RULES- When posting a game entry you must put the name of the game, the version of PCSXBox used, and whatever you have to say next to that. Please highlight it in the appropriate color. If you don't do this I will probably won't add the game.
- List the full title of the game when posting an entry, don't shorten the title to "MGS:VRM" when you should put "Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions"... I'm sure you get the point, and I'm sure I could probably figure it out but this would make things a hell of a lot easier for me. Also don't forget which version you're playing - EU, US, or JP.
- When posting an entry be as specific as possible, don't just say "works fine", give a little more detail than that - such as how far into the game you played. Where applicable, mention how many levels you passed, the amount of time spent playing, etc. Note that "playable" is not the same thing as "perfect".
- If you had to change any of the default emulation settings to get a game working, mention what they are - many games won't work at all without some tweaks. If you can't get a game to work but haven't bothered to test many settings, make sure you mention that if you decide to make a report anyway. Tips If you are looking for Final Fantasy settings you may also want to check this thread for more detailed information: Final Fantasy Fix ThreadTo fix the Resident Evil games and Dino Crisis, set the Throttle button to unmapped.
To have the battle Menus in Final Fantasy IX, unmap the throttle button.
Final Fantasy Orgins does indeed work. There is more than one version of the game. Try another version if yours is acting up.
Thrill Kill final does work on v2 with the BIOS. I don't think it was tested fully the first time.
-First shut off CDDA
-Then just press the psx X+square buttons at the beginning where you get a black screen after the image has finished loading
-Also, you will get black screens after fighting, but just push a button on the d-pad and the screen shows up
-Runs better at 32 bit graphics (I can't remember the specific option under the video options because my xbox isn't here at the moment, so what I just said could be right or wrong, but just switch something that says 16 to 32) -elnino2783
To get Final Fantasy 7 to show the cursor over enemies and make it run better, turn frameskip OFF and old frameskip ON -reaper527
To play another disc on the multidisc games, at the end of the disc when it asks you to switch the disc, right click and go to the very last option load new disc image. Now just select the second disc and it should continue off.
To have wild arms 2 running correctly, you must:
- graphic fixes: the 5 first are enabled, others are disabled
- cpu fixes: just enable the last option: <something i forgot> combat fix -CACAMOU
For those who don't know how to unmap the throttle:
Press "X" on the game you wish to unmap the throttle for -> go to configure controller -> controller 1 -> change joypad mappings -> change UI mappings -> where it says fast forward/throttle just change it to "Nothing"
To get games like Vagrant Story, Silent Hill, and lots of other games to work, make sure you set the filter to NONE.
Other games are FF7, blastermaster and Strider 2, there are more games too.
If certain games don't work then turn the filters off, you can turn them back on when in the game - thanks to Foe-Hammer for more detail.
Additional tips from me for Resident Evil 3 posted by cupcake4u - if the game still has slowdown during cutscenes then hold down the throttle to get everything normal, it will be faster though. During the final battle when the time starts to count down you may have to disable the inuyasha battle fix, for me the game wouldn't go out of the cut scene.

Ace Combat 2 Runs perfectly in HLE - menus wouldn't show up on the first load but quit game, reload and they work – Xustu
Ace Combat III - (BIN/CUE) - Works perfectly with standard bios settings. Played through first level with no problems. Your plane looks goofy in the replay scenes when the level ends, but that seems to be the only problem. (v18) -ressurectionx
Aces of the Air
Action Bass Bin/Cue Works nicely with Standard Bios settings, only drawback is that the "FISH ON" music is choppy and too fast. All the other sounds are as they should be (v18) -sotu
Action Man: Operation Extreme (BIN/CUE) - Works with standard BIOS settings. FMV looks and sounds good. Gameplay is great. There are no words to describe the awesomeness of Action Man. Download it and play it now. Beat the desert level (about an hour worth of play). (v18) -ressurectionx
Activision Classic Games - YES, slight pause in menu screen. - HSDEMONZ
Activision Classic Games - (BIN/CUE) - Works with standard BIOS settings. Menu has some slowdown problems in actions and music. Game also acts flakey when you quit a game to get back out to the menu. Games themselves play good though. The sound is off on the games though.... trust me. I've been around long enough to have played Seaquest on the Atari 2600. There is something just not satisfying about shooting down a submarine with the garbage sound butchering going on in this game. Just get a 2600 emulator if you need to play these games. (v18) -ressurectionx
Adidas Power Soccer

Akuji The Heartless - (IMG/CCD/SUB) - Works with standard BIOS settings. Frameskip on, Old Frameskipping on, Lazy Screen Updates on. Funny thing is, the version I have seems to be the game and a demo disk as well. Music plays fine during the gameplay and FMVs, but there is the static buzzing at the initial menu before you choose the game. No need to turn off the CDDA once you get past the menu. I recommend saving the game right after you select Akuji from the "in-game" menu. FMV looks and sounds great. Gameplay is a little choppy, but not too bad. Messed around on the first level a bit before quitting. (v18) -ressurectionx
Alexi Lalas International Soccer
Alien Resurrection Yes, works with original BIOS. Can't wait till the emu supports analog control. –Xdelusion
Alien Resurrection - (BIN/CUE) - Works with standard BIOS settings. FMV looks and sounds great. To make the voice not echo during gameplay, I put XA Speed Fix on, Interpolation Cubic/Slow, Wait CPU Action on, IRQ in Decoded Sound Buf on, and Sound Timer Method Original. Alien Trilogy - (BIN/CUE) - Works with standard BIOS settings. FMV looks and sounds great. Options menu doesn't seem to work at all for me. Sound in-game works, but skips just enough to be annoying to me. Your call if you want to leave it on or not. Played about 5 minutes. (v18) -ressurectionx

Arcade Party Pak - (IMG) - Works with standard BIOS settings. Okay… gotta admit, as far as the arcade packs go, this is a pretty good collection. Smash TV, Rampage, Super Sprint, 720, KLAX and Toobin'. Why burn up so much space on your XBox for a few arcades though? Get MAME. UPDATE: Only some of the games work. Toobin' seems to be fine, but Smash TV plays so fast that it's unplayable. (v18) -ressurectionx
Arcades Greatest Hits: Atari Collection I - (BIN/CUE) - Works with standard BIOS settings. FMV looks and sounds great, with only some minor sound glitches . Gameplay is fine, but only 5 games??! LOL…… don't waste your time. Get MAME. (v18) -ressurectionx
Arcades Greatest Hits: Atari Collection II - (BIN/CUE) - Works with standard BIOS settings. FMV looks and sounds great . Gameplay is fine, but only 6 games??! Arcades Greatest Hits: Midway Collection II - (IMG/CCD/SUB) - FMV looks and sounds great . Gameplay is fine. Moon Patrol, Joust II, Burger Time, Spy Hunter.... Wow! 6 games... or 5 when you consider that Defender I and Defender II are basically the exact same game. Don't waste your time. Get MAME. (v18) -ressurectionx
Area 51 - (IMG/CCD/SUB) - Works with Standard Bios Settings, however screen is split down the middle and the right side is on the left side and vice versa. It is very annoying. I couldn't find a graphics fix to avoid this. (v18) -ressurectionx

Army Men: Green Rogue - (IMG/CUE/CCD/SUB) - Works with standard BIOS settings. FMV looks and sound great, though it's a little out of sync. Was marked before as unworking because it freezes after the first FMV sequence at a "Loading" screen. I thought so too, but you just have to wait about 30 seconds with the throttle down for it to load. (TIP: Savestate after loading, and then you never have to see it again.) Gameplay is a little choppy but nothing too serious. (v18) -ressurectionx

Woaw, excelent, thanks to up this list with a new forum

I m so sad to have no time to finish my test at this moment ... but with the last pcsxbox emu many news games works fine

And the Xtras settings help a lot too lol
Fo my part i have a big problem with : Hokuto no Ken Fist of the North Star !
You dont put it in the list :'
You only speak about the old game in 2D who is working great!
But the best is the second game, an 3D beat'em all really beautifull and fun

It is strarting very well but freeze in the intro we can't skip

I see over the web there is the same problem on PSP because it use the same emu core engine ... but they solve the problem by using some savestate who permit them to select the level and skip intro to play all the game

I don't understand ... but i think the save are not same on xbox ... i can't understand how to use tham ...
Is some one have a real solution or fix for this game please ?
Or is some one have good save for xbox for we can skeep intro ?
Thanks a lot
Bye

Hehe.. this list is about to be turned on it's ear.
But thanks for straightening it out. I've been using it as a reference as I go thru testing games.
Weird that having the filters on would cause some games not to work. I didn't see anything in the source that would indicated issues.

Jul 9 2010, 04:26 AM
I dunno, maybe the filters just eat up too much RAM or something during initialisation. No idea. I'm curious as to whether that has something to do with my inability to boot FFVIII, and I suspect it may be why there are all these reports around the place of PCSXBox suddenly refusing to boot games that the same install would boot before. I'll have to take a closer look some time.
Note that the only games outright missing from the old thread are from the C listing in the first post. Though I did update the settings for one or two entries while I was porting the list across.
@Darknior:
I'd assume the save files are compatible, but you'll need to import them manually.
On the console, the PSX saves go in E:\SAVES\PCSXBOX. Each game then has it's own subfolder named according to whatever you've named your disc image files.
In each of these subfolders, you've got the actual save files. I guess what you'd need to do is rename the file(s) from the save you downloaded to match the name(s) of the files in that folder (while leaving the file extensions untouched), then replace them.
So say you have an image called "Hokuto no Ken Fist of the North Star.iso". The saves for this will be in "E:\SAVES\PCSXBOX\Hokuto no Ken Fist of the North Star". Each save file will be called "Hokuto no Ken Fist of the North Star.*", where the * stands for the extension of each save file.
Note that MCD files in the save folder have their last character replaced with number, eg you might have "Hokuto no Ken Fist of the North Sta0.mcd" then "Hokuto no Ken Fist of the North Sta1.mcd".
madmab
Jul 9 2010, 06:49 AM
That's the thing. The memory used by the filters is initialized before a game is even run. So that memory is essentially already used up..

Yeah I noticed the missing "c" games when testing redump_org..
I'll have to try those games sometime and see if it croaks or not.
Bomb Bloke
Jul 9 2010, 06:54 AM
So you're saying that memory is reserved for filters even if you don't have one enabled?
madmab
Jul 9 2010, 08:40 AM
Yeah that is currently how the x-port emu's work. Only exception is snes9xbox which I modified to allocated the memory needed for 2x filters when needed. Which of course requires the user to reload their game.. but hey..

Of course that may be changed in the future cause I noticed more was/is being allocated than needed. So I can probably remove that restriction.

Ore No Ryouri (J) tested with PCSXBOX v18
- Graphics and sound are very good. Some minor graphics glitches when you have to cut veggies etc.
- The analog sticks are quite unprecise for this game. This makes the "drunkard call" almost unplayable. Strangely, using a PSX controller almost kills this problem.

Holy cow, your huge efforts never cease to amaze me!
Also, it is interesting to see that the filters are cached in the RAM for the program's launch.

Is it possible now that Nestopia has been ported and Kega Fusion is a WIP to get ported, that Epsxe can also be ported to the xbox? I have had trouble getting it to run through linux just so I can play Megaman Legends 2 since it don't work on pcsxbox

. That would easily deplete most of the compatibility list in a heartbeat as this emulator in windows is AMAZING!

Hi
If you want source of ePCSXe ... just ask them to the author and explain him why ?
Tell him we want see his emulator on xbox, we want to apologise his work and not just copy it and past our name!
Explain him the xbox is the new "Video Game Museum" ....
More and more arguments ...
We made it for 1964 last year, i write to the author of 1964, of Rice Plugin, of PJ64 ...
And finaly some respond and give the world the source code !!!!
It is important to speak in the life, with your heart, and if the guy is a good guy, don't work for him but for all the world, it will understand you and help you

Like Madmab who working hard, and always answering message and speaking with us ...
One day when his work will be done, if he give the source code to the world, all his work too will can be upgraded for xbox 360 ... maybe

A batter idea rather than trying for epsxe would be to try to get the source for psx, it's a faster and more compatible emulator and doesn't require plugins. Just select your iso and go.

That sounds like an awesome idea.
If you contacted the psx emu authors in a serious way,
I'm sure there's a chance they will give you the code to port it.
Most of them build them for the love of emulating, and not personal gain.
If you were able to succesfully port epsxe and/or psx and/or psxeven,
you might double the amount of fully playable psx games.

Damn I didn't know there were 2 other playstation emus...which ever one of the 3 is best overall while still being able to play megaman legends 2 im GAME

. By WIP I mean it as asking the author for the source; the idea is in the air, etc, etc not ACTUALLY having the source and going to work. Sorry for the confusion. GO XECUTER! and next MAJOR upgrade for xbox emulation definitely PSX! Surreal wasn't touched for a long time and this year we've got like 2-3 major updates already....who knows what else 2010 may bring us.

Yeah I read that "There are no plans to take pSX open source as of yet. If you are an emulator author, feel free to email pSX Author, as he is willing to share the source code (within reason)." Within reason hmm well we have a damned good reason, and seeing how he did port it to the xbox at one point, makes this like our best bet.

Some people resurrected the PCSX emulator that I believe XBOX emu is based on.
It is called PCSX revival and it is a spin off of another PCSX branch called PCSX-df.
I believe that using that source might be a better starting point.

psx reloaded is based off of the psx source so they are not much different so yes. Sometimes it is easier just to find the sections of code pertaining to a change and adding them than it is doing a whole core update.
I did that with adamx, atarixlbox, and now pcsxbox. I may attempt it with other emu's as I see the need.

Hey guys, I thought I'd post my Metal Gear Solid Problem here. This is my first time playing this game or any MGS game, wow is it ever cool.
I think I need a save state for after you defeat the ninja. I tried 3 psx isos of this game and can't seem to get past the Video sequence. Here's what i've done so far:
I tried to load the Rx Save but it doesn't show up in the load game menu in MGS. I'm using the recommended settings and the latest version of PSCXBOX.
I ran the disc against the redump.org DAT files, it checks out as Metal Gear Solid (USA) (v1.0) (Disc 1) and the other two show up in Romcenter as Unknown Game.
I tried save states during the FMV sequence and still nothing works.
Can anyone help? Or possibly send me a PSX Memory file with a save after the Ninja fight?

Framelimit: on
Game works almost perfect, graphics 100%, minor cdda glitches. Audio track continues to next one (you can avoid this pausing/continuing the game). When pressing left trigger (L1 in psx) to see the map, game stops, just press left trigger again to release.
If you cant listen fx, select mono in audio options

I first played this game in bios file mode, and it plays very well, but i was testing different setting and i get better results:
Bios mode: HLE
Graphics fixes:
- frameskip: off
- framelimit: on
Spu fixes:
-Reverb: none/fastest
-Sound timer method: original
Using any graphic filter will make the game slower, so do not use any filter, it looks great anyway.

Does anyone else got a savegame for me right after defeating Revolver Ocelot for Metal Gear Solid? Or is there any other workaround for this crash? Does this crash occur with every version of PcsXbox or is there a version that would play this sequence just fine, so I could use this version temporarily to get around the crash?
Or is this save even included in the RessurectionXtra's saves?

Okay, I don't know if this one has already been confirmed, but PCSXBox v.20 does indeed play the movie in Metal Gear Solid after you beat Revolver Ocelot whereas PCSXBox v.21 will crash at that situation.
This bug makes Metal Gear Solid unfinishable in v.21. Maybe this can get fixed.

WWF Smackdown! (bin/cue) has a slowdown issue when playing with more than 2 players (Royal Rumble, fatal four way, etc.). The strange issue is if Frame skip is turned "Off" the gameplay runs normally with more than 2 players, but the audio is stuttery.
Metal Gear Solid has a strange audio issue.......keeps repeating every two words. Intro has a bit of slowdown. Gameplay is great though.
This is using PCSX v21

Use the fix for metal gear. Bring up the config menu by pressing X to load the game. The fix is in "Set SPU fixes" its called "Wait CPU Action". Turn that on.
I have metal gear running off core 1.5 gpu 1.16 spu 1.9.. all seems to run alright, but there could be better settings. As for smackdown I have had no issues like that with smackdown 2, but I haven't played it in a while. And it is pretty similar to number 1, infact I think number 2 is better..
Good luck with it
