-> x360 Music Organizer v0.14 beta - by MahoppianGoon <-

Here is a small program I've been working on since July 4, 2010.
It was originally going to be a music organizer for custom music on your Xbox 360,
but I soon realized how difficult that 'mindex.xmi' is to read, so I gave up on that for now.
Right now it just creates a NEW 'mindex.xmi' file and the 'FMIM' music files.

I ONLY created this because I read in another thread that someone was trying to do this,
and I wanted to see if it was even remotely possible at all. I guess it kinda is! lol tongue.gif
This is nowhere near perfect, and there are some known issues, but the basic functionality does work!

Since this creates a NEW 'mindex.xmi' file and 'mindex/media' folders,
make sure you backup your current 'mindex' folder on your Xbox 360 first! (if you want to save it)
Right now it can't add to existing 'mindex.xmi' files.

   |                                                                       |
   | * If you want to automatically upload the created files to Xbox 360,  |
   |   check the 'Auto-Upload Files to x360' box and launch 'FSD' or 'XEXM'|

   |   backup the folder, then click 'OK' (it will save it as              |
   |   'mindex_currentdate_currenttime' on your Xbox 360) if you already   |
   |   deleted it, then click 'OK', for anything else, click 'Cancel'. :)  |
   |                                                                       |

   |   navigate through your Xbox 360 HDD! Click 'Select File to Upload',  |
   |   to upload a file to the current directory (You can also right-click)|
   |                                                                       |
   | * Click on the 'FMIM Music Converter' tab to convert FMIM back to WMA |
   |NOTE: This will only work with original FMIM files and files created   |
   |      with 'v0.13 beta' and above, since I forgot to add the 'Artist'  |
   |      and 'Song Title' in the FMIM header, in the older versions (oops)|
   |      Well, technically it will still work, its just you would have to |
   |      know which FMIM files 'Artist' and 'Song Title' are and manually |
   |      change them (Right-click->Rename Song)                           |
   |   Drag and drop the FMIM files in the big white box and it'll add them|
   |   (You can drop awhole bunch of files, but will only add FMIM files!) |
   |   You can also click 'Choose FMIM Folder' to choose a folder instead. |
   |   If you want to change the 'Output Directory' click the '...' button |
   |   If you want to add the converted WMA files to 'mindex.XMI Creator', |
   |   check the 'Add WMA Files to mindex.XMI Creator!' box.               |
   |   If you do check that box to add the WMA files, then DON'T rename or |
   |   move those WMA files, or the 'mindex.XMI Creator' WON'T work!       |
   |   After you created the XMI file, then you can do whatever with them. |
   |   You can rename the files before converting by right-clicking, Rename|
   |   Click 'Convert FMIM Music Files to WMA' to start the process.       |
   |                                                                       |
   | * Click the 'AP!' checkbox to start 'Music Player Mode'!              |
   |   In this mode, all the textboxes/labels on the bottom will magically |
   |   disappear and the audio controls will then appear, turning the      |
   |   listview box into the playlist. You can double-click on the songs   |
   |   to start playing or right-click 'Play, Pause, or Stop Song'.        |
   |   You can click on the 'Repeat' button to repeat the entire playlist, |
   |   and never stop playing, and click on the 'Shuffle' button to        |
   |   randomly choose the next song. If the repeat button is off, then    |
   |   after it's played every song, it will then stop playing.            |
   |   And of course you can press the 'Previous, Next, and Mute' buttons, |
   |   along with controlling the volume. It will save the volume you set! |
   |   You can also right-click on the tray icon to get ALL the controls!  |
   |   Plus theres a 'Now Playing' menu where it shows you the 3 next songs|
   |   and the 3 previous songs in the playlist! :)                        |

So this converts your WMA's to the 360 music format so you don't need to rip it via 360.
If so thats neat

Thanks Dude wink.gif
A great implementation for the next release is an intergrated convertissor for MP3 To WMA =)

Nice start. It's such a pain burning songs to CDRW just to get them on the 360.

I spent the last 3 days trying to figure out how to add more Artists/Albums,
but it seems impossible. lol Even when I thought I had it, the new Artist/Album
would show up, but the songs wouldn't..so idk :/
The only closer I got for this to fully work as it should,
is I got the songs to show up when you select the Album and I'm not even sure how I did that lol laugh.gif

The sources are so messed up, you probably wouldn't even learn anything. lol
All I did was rip a couple tracks from a CD, then look at the mindex.xmi file.
Then in the mindex.xmi file, I just copied everything and changed the Artist/Album/Song names.
Its probably not the best way to do it, but it did work!
Thats probably why I can't add any more Artists/Albums,
because I'm missing important information that I'm not changing.

at 0x4C2 is the last filename
at 0x4CA is the total # songs for all albums
at 0x51 from the start of the album text is the last filename for that album
at 0x59 from the start of the album text is the total # songs for that album
the total length for the texts (Artist,Album,Song,Genre) is 0x51 or 41 characters.
at 0x722 and 0x97A is the total # of Artists/Albums (ones prob Artist, and the other Albums)

also, everytime you rip a different Artist/Album, it will skip 2 filenames,
and use one as the artist id and the other as the album id (i think)
if the last filename is 0015, and you rip a different Artist/Album, the next filename will be 0018

thats some of what I can remember, but theres still A LOT more that I don't know of

Ok I got this figure out, I had to download the latest .NET framework and it works now. Great program!
Pjoto
Ah, this'll save me allot of time!
Thanks so much smile.gif Was having problems with streaming and my slow ass USB.

edit: just one feature missing, I see your GUI indicating that it'll be added later though. The ability to add songs to your current list. As it is now it seems I have to convert all the files I want on my hdd in one go. If I try to add more files later, the new mindex.xmi will overwrite the old one, and the xbox wont find the "old" music files, am I correct? Also I'm guessing the files will be named mostly the same and overwrite each other as well.
But if this can somehow be fixed, this program is already perfect. I don't mind converting .mp3's to .wma's, I used this freeware, worked perfectly on my Windows7.

http://www.allformp3.com/multimedia/audio/...rter-1.7.3.html

Some of the songs I tried converting with your program couldn't be streamed or ripped from audiodiscs for some weird reason, but they worked perfectly after this proccess, and now I finally have the music on my hdd smile.gif
Seriously thumbs up for this one, dum-dum-dum dum duuum, I'm loving it smile.gif
hack.rid
to keep your existing songs:

dump your mindex folder to your pc,
use the "xbox 360 music converter" to get your wma files back,
then run x360 music organizer again, with old + new wma files to have everything in place.

would be nice if the to authors could teamup to make program named like "xTunes" to manage your music stuff.

think of it:)

best regards
hack.rid
checkout http://www.xdlab.ru/en/download.htm

its nice and portable, use thinapp to make the previous mentioned audio converter portable, too.
hack.rid
you can also juse xmedia recode to convert mp3 tp wma
hack.rid
i just want to add something.
because i cant edit my posts i have to do it that way.

1. you can use wma files encoded with more than 192kbit CBR

2. i have several mp3s which cant be converted
Free-Mp3-Wma-Converter-1.7.3 crashes and xmedia recode just skipps them.
but ACE-High converter does the job, but only with 128kbit, no other selectable

Happy Friday the 13th! BOO! ph34r.gif hah
yeah, I've pretty much given up on adding more songs to already existing XMI file, it just seems impossible. the only possible way to figure it out is to reverse-engineer the media player on the Xbox 360, and I have no idea how to do that. the way the program is right now is the best I can do with my limited knowledge, lol...seriously, literally thousands of google searches... i'm surprised I got that far with it lol... someone with far more knowledge then me will figure it out, eventually... i might add a mp3 converter if I can figure it out, but thats probably about it...after over a month, and still no closer then when I first started lol... weird

so for now, im going to grab my popcorn! pop.gif lol
hack.rid
wow thank you mate!!

a converter for mp3 could be easily done with a-simple-c-wrapper-for-ffmpeg

think about this:

you can use wma s encoded with more than 192kbs!

i've successfully testet 320 kbit/s.

a renamer for your existing mp3 files to bring it in the "artist - title.mp3" form would be great too.

see this resources for it. could find out if its possible with ffmpeg

i'd be glad to see your sources smile.gif

greetings

edit:

"delete selected file" on your ftp uploader disconnects my ftp connection.
just kinda non functional button.

my intentaion was to delete the existing mindex folder on x360

edit2:

the conversion back to wma files seems also a big strange?
edit: artist and title info still missing in fmim header, didnt get this first. i believe this was a little step for you to add as far as you allready are.

where do i select the mindex folder i want to convert to wma files?
theres just a "output path", i think an input path would be as important as this!

suggestion for adding files to existing collection:
convert them all back to wma first, adding the "files to add" to the que.
and convert them all in one go back to fmim?

i've postet some where where the song duration is stored in mindex.xmi. that would be also a small step for you to add, and nice to have smile.gif IPB Image
naizarak
not to be a drag, but you guys do know that you can stream songs to your 360, even during games

i've personally used this feature forever, i don't have any songs on the 360, everything is streamed from my pc
DARKFiB3R
Streaming sucks for me, trying to browse my nas with around 24000 tracks is a painfully slow experience. I suppose if the 360 stored a local database this wouldn't be an issue, but it doesn't, so it is sad.gif
clouduz
thanks for the awesome program. As for the comment above, well not everyone wants to stream or might take their 360 somewhere then where is your music? yeah at home. For right now I just either use my ipod or the stupid long cdrw method. They should have been more like the ps3 and just let us copy videos and music no problem.

wow! this is the update of all updates! ohmy.gif added a converter, so it will convert any 'mp3, ogg, or wav' file to wma automatically when you create the xmi file! and now since you can add mp3s to the list, why not make a player? OK! so now it will PLAY the songs that are in the list. just click the 'MP!' checkbox! its almost an exact replica of 'Windows Media Player' without using the WMP Component, and you can also control the player from the system tray icon!

a converter for mp3 could be easily done with a-simple-c-wrapper-for-ffmpeg
wow that looks complicated. I just used Bass.NET for the converter, so I don't have to use external exe's, alot easier. and it can also play the songs and read the ID3 tag!

you can use wma s encoded with more than 192kbs!
i've successfully testet 320 kbit/s.
yeah, but the 360 uses 192kbps (i think) and maybe its just me, but I don't notice any big difference. and it's double in size going from 128 to 320kbps, so you would save alot of space! unless you have a 1tb HDD, then it doesn't matter. lol

a renamer for your existing mp3 files to bring it in the "artist - title.mp3" form would be great too.
it will first read the ID3 tag to get the artist and song title, it that doesn't exist, then it'll use the '-' to get the 'Artist - Title', if the '-' doesn't exist, then it'll use the entire filename for the song title.

"delete selected file" on your ftp uploader disconnects my ftp connection. just kinda non functional button. my intentaion was to delete the existing mindex folder on x360
you can't delete folders with that, thats why it says 'Delete Selected File', lol the problem is you have to go through each folder deleting each file first, you can't just delete the folder and everything at once, and I couldn't get it to work. you could just use FSD to delete the folder. takes about 5 secs. lol

the conversion back to wma files seems also a big strange?
edit: artist and title info still missing in fmim header, didnt get this first. i believe this was a little step for you to add as far as you allready are.
yeah, that only works with FMIM files created with v0.13 and above because I forgot to add the artist and title to the FMIM header. and for this version it will get the ID3 tags from the file, so it doesn't matter what the name of the file is, if theres an ID3 tag, it will always work!

where do i select the mindex folder i want to convert to wma files? theres just a "output path", i think an input path would be as important as this!
haha! thats because its just drag-n-drop the files in the big white box, simple! ok, fine! I added a 'Choose FMIM Folder' box. You have to choose the '0000' folder!
QUOTE(hack.rid) *
convert them all back to wma first, adding the "files to add" to the que. and convert them all in one go back to fmim?
umm... not sure what you mean there. I added a 'Add Converted WMA files to Converter List' so after you convert the FMIM files back to WMA, it will automatically add them to the 'mindex.XMI Converter' list! right?
QUOTE(hack.rid) *
i've postet some where where the song duration is stored in mindex.xmi. that would be also a small step for you to add, and nice to have smile.gif
yeah, I finally figured out the song length. I knew where it was, just couldn't figure out what it was. the last 2 digits screwed me up. your right, its probably just (length in milliseconds * number of channels) and those other 2 digits at the end is just 4 added to the next song. so the first song its 5, then 9, 13, 17, and so on... I can't believe I didn't notice that before! lol

anything else? lol laugh.gif

not to be a drag, but you guys do know that you can stream songs to your 360, even during gamesi've personally used this feature forever, i don't have any songs on the 360, everything is streamed from my pc
well thats no fun! then you would have no reason to use my program, unless you just wanted to listen to music! lmao unsure.gif
hack.rid
thanks mate !

i'll check it later, sounds nice so far!
hack.rid
i dont want to criticize you, i try to help making your program perfect. okay? wink.gif

its impressive how much features you already put in there, seems you learn stuff very fast wink.gif
  • i just noticed a converter problem
but cant exactly say whats the reason to fail...

    mp3 before conversion
    resulting wma

compare both, i'm sure you hear a slight difference tongue.gif
i had that problem once before with several mp3->wma converters.

ace high converter worked perfect for with ALL mp3s. i wonder you if you could manage to use some sort of windows media encoder stuff...
this would be great and surely working, i think for all mp3s.

just read that media encoder is no longer supportet, now its called "expression encoder"
  • more hints to come, but since i cant edit my posts i have to quadpost or some tongue.gif

Nice tool though I have had the strangest problems with it (.14 version).

1 - some file names fail in a big way (crash). For example: "Liquid Tension Experiment 03 - K.wma"
From some other testing that stumbled on this - I suspect it has to do with files that have a single character and whitespace (as in that K) but I am not sure... simply renaming the file and tacking an "a" on the end fixed this one.

2 - Relatively common I am having a problem where I already have some wma files and once ran through the app they won't play on the xbox, also if I use the fmim converter those same files won't play on the computer. Using a hex editor it seems that some of the wma header is being stripped off.
By discovering which tracks fail to play and then using fmim converter and a hex editor I can determine the chunk that is missing and copy it from the original into the fmim file. Copying that over to the box fixes it. I know almost nothing about wma format so I don't know what is significant about the stripped header data.

Here you will find a wma file which exhibits this problem.

FYI - file is a conversion from module music format...

3 - Another crash I forgot about - if the id3 tag equivalent data contains... say... Japanese characters.

4 - Another crash I missed - crashes (index out of bounds looks like) on more than 63 songs.

Other than those - MUCH better than trying to browse through music library remotely (takes FOREVER).

Love this tool, although I've been having some problems with adding more than 63 songs or whatever at a time.
Just wondering if there is any way to add more songs? Like, will it work if I first convert 63 songs, then FTP them, then convert the next 63 songs and FTP them?
Or will the first 63 be forgotten then since the new XMIheaderFile-file will overwrite the old one?

And if so. is there any way to merge them or anything like that? Can I copy/paste from the first XMIheaderFile to the new one with a text-editor?
Pjoto
Nevermind, just used another program to convert from .mp3 to .wma and version 13b to convert from .wma to xbox-format.
Didn't encounter any problems then.
bubbada
noticed If the music files are already wma the convert process doesnt take tong at all.
happy.gif

um can xbox read more than 50 songs in a mindex?

because have 175 songs i want to put on there,

but all i can do is 50 in 1 mindex. (so can multiple mindex's be created for the 360 and work?)

hope a new update of the music orginizer gets realesed soon, thankyou for a great prog. love.gif It!
hack.rid
any progress here?
guile_mrd
Thanks for this great tool, it works fine up to 63 mp3 files. hope to see an update to solve the crash problem for 64+ files.
