Window could have used a little more time on the cut... poor xbox

and flush mounted plexi would have been bad ace!
but all in all my props go out to you for taking the plunge to mod the new 360s

I assume you are refering to putting a window in the drive. The disk drive is tough. The metal is alot thicker and stronger. If you have a dremel or something similar, get one of the carbide cutter bits, they work the best in my opinion. Well I am not sure, but aren't the disk drives in the slims the same a the ones in the regulars. You could try and buy extra DVD drive covers from the BST section here on this site. When I cut my first DVD drive window I messed up, so an extra isn't a bad idea.
I personally don't think flush-mount plexi-glass is worth the extra work, but that is personal preference. I would first clean up the main window and touch it up with alittle paint.

yea that's what I was refering to. And the disk drive is 16dsg(I believe I'm not near it to look) lite-on but is redesigned. I have the EZ-lock metal & plastic cutting blades for the dremel but I think I'm gonna have to wait for the drives to become available as I cannot find them. I agree I need to paint it and like the second poster said I also haven't seen one painted so I might just sand it all down and paint but I'm not a pro when it comes to painting lol but as for window modding these things there's not much wiggle room to wrk with as they built this thing tight fit. I'm thinking of doin a window the size of the hdd and a little window in the hdd but we will se how wrk goes and how tired I am.
Edit: I think I'll practice cutting a window on a few older drives b4 I get the nerve to do thenew one but thanks everyone (in my mind I feel like a pro at case modding and detail but I'm far from it but everyone here has taught me alot

i just tend to do things when im tight on time but when its done it should look better. im planning on painting it, i have a nice lime green color but might need to change the leds except the hdd lights as they are already green. oh and i tried to do a practice plexi flush and found out its harder than what it seems

Sure you want to be first to do all this, but honestly your wasting your time and expensive Xbox. Instead of rushing it finish each mod first. You got real good ideas though. Come up with something new.

i dont feel like im wasting my time or my xbox i have the money to get another if i wanted to but as i have 5 xbox 360s no need for the time being unless i f-it up, so money isn't a problem. this is just something i wanted to do to pass the time while I'm off wrk and dont have the wife naggin me lol its just somethin i find relaxin and productive. but i agree it looks like im rushing but im really not, kinda like a rough draft befor the final product.

When he said you were wasting your time and money, I think he meant if you are going to rush through mods especially and not finish one before moving onto the next, then you are wasting the money that you spent on the Xbox and the time modding it because you have a bunch of mods that don't look good because none of them are finished properly.
They are saying take your time, finish one part of the mod before moving onto the next.

1st srry for DP there's no edit button but anyway I spent a few hours cleaning up the cuts and got everthing sanded down ready to prime/paint and I think I'm deciding to go chrome on both sides and keep the front face orig. We will see I flush mounted the plexi window on the hdd as best as I could( not as easy as it seems well not for me at least) I tried to flush the other windows I have cut out but to no avail

but I'll have some updated pics hopefully this weekend. Oh an I practiced on a different disk drive to cut and see the disk spin, turned out pretty good I just don't think I'm ready to do the new one just yet

That looks much better than before.
As for doing flush mount windows, here is a tip. Flip the case. Place the plexi against the window cut on the outside part of the case. Then take a pen or marker and trace the outline of the window. Next take the plexi and cut out the piece you traced out but don't go all the way to the line. Then start sanding little by little all the way around the piece, checking to see if it fits after each little bit of sanding. Once it fits nice and snug, put some super glue along the edge of the case and piece and then put the plexi in place. It takes patience to get a flush mount done right.

Thanks and I tried it like u said a few days ago I used a sharpie pen and I think it's just getting the corners perfect that I'm having probs with what grit sand paper would be best u think? Also if I end up having a few little places that don't line up and not flush is there something I could use (clear) that would fill in the gaps? Thanks in adv. But I'll give it another shot when I get off wrk tonight if the misses let's me

oh and quick ? If I get my window close to being flush with the cut can I use a heat gun to shrink it to fit or will that just cause it to flex and mess the primer up?

Jul 22 2010, 04:48 PM
To paint chrome properly you need alot of speacil tools and the proper paint is expensive. If you have the ability go for it. If you are set on chrome, there are some chroming services on the internet.
It looks so much better now, the cuts are nice and clean. I am suprised how nice it primed.

I would not use a heat gun on it. That is a bad idea. Another alternative method of getting flush mount windows is using clear epoxy resin. This stuff you have to be very careful with and it can be a bit tricky to use, but the finish product is really nice.

ok I'll give that a go if I can't get it to fit right but if I go that way I'll practice on a spare case.
And to everyone thanks. Told yall it would be nicely cleaned

up I just wrk by doing fast and looking at it then when it comes down to making it right I'll take my time but painting I always take my time bc I'm not the best at it

Jul 23 2010, 09:05 PM
Update: I went to go paint yesterday but couldn't bc it went from sunny to straight out down pour so I went and tried to find out if the Rf boards LEDs were green/red like the rest of the 360s but didn't find anything except the powerbrick redlight. And I have nothing to test the LEDs, so does anyone know if they are green/red and if so can I just bridge the negative polarity points on certain LEDs? Thanks in adv.

I have to admit the revised cuts look much nicer than previously shown. Keep up the good work man!
light-of-jesus
Jul 24 2010, 09:02 PM
I am not 100% certain of this since I don't have a slim 360 to work with yet, but the rf module on the new 360 should only have green leds for the player indicator lights. The only light that should be dual color is the center one.
If you could take some high res pictures of the RF Module with the clip off and everything exposed, it would be easier to confirm this.
truskillzz69
Jul 25 2010, 07:02 PM
at the moment i cant get high res-pics of the rf board as the wife has the good camera (shes a photographer)so will try later on. in the meanwhile im on the final stage of painting before i move to clearcoating.

lol but im liking it so far. and what do ya know its about to storm so clear coats will have to wait till tomorrow and now since i seen your grim reaper etch. i just got back from buying an engraving cutter for my dremel lol so now to get a design i like (im a Gears 1 Vet so im leaning towards that)

1st ? Is there not an edit button on here so I'm not DP'ing and I'm just blind I know there's one like after I post but it's not there when you come back after a short time? But anyway I found a pretty cool skull to etch and did it looks pretty good to me being my second etch. I'll have a pic up as soon as I get done should be tonite so you all can tell me my etching flaws lol but in the meantime I took apart an nyko intercooler stripped the 3 fans off and have considered using it somehow to power some/ all my LEDs and since it runs off dc power I can just unplug it when I don't want my LEDs going but that's just a processing thought? Suggestions welcomed on that

Haha thanks and I actuall finished it today I'll post pics up when I get home I ended up adding 2 more strips of LEDs so I now have 2 in the fan, 1 near the back of the disk drive and 1 by the hdd. And I ended up putting the skull etch over the hdd and I don't know if anyone remembers beast wars but I did 3 symbols and flames along the bottom for the window above the disk drive( don't know if I really like that one so some sug.
