cOz released a new plug-in for Dash Launch 1.0:
[QUOTE]
What it does:
Every 3.5 minutes a file "alive.bin" will be created, written to and then deleted from the root of your Mass device, this should solve problems with drive enclosures like Story [Samsung external USB HDD] going to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity.

Dash Launch 1.0 (both patches and xex) required for this plugin to work

Why write to the drive? couldn't you just read from it to reset the spin down timer?

Not trying to knock your solution but just curious why you would go for automatic writing over reading and if there is a technical reasons for it.

Writing was done to to possible caching, which if you tried to access a cached file, you wouldnt be reading from the drive at all

Cool simple little thing that actually serves a purpose. Nice.

I don't need it with my drive, but good to know it's there in case I ever change drives.

this samsung story has cost me hours of gameplay by falling asleep, i am very thankful for this. just one question, how do you get it to work, what should the launch.ini look like?
juggahax0r
@kunocorp
underneath the first part with the button configuration drop down and do this:

[Plugins]
name of plugin goes here

I don't know what the plugin name is as I don't have that issue but i dropped in and do know the answer to that one, look at the example ini if you still have trouble it shows you how to set it up.
pedderb
doesn't work for me.

the info says:

plugin1 = \Device\Mass0\hddalive.xex

what's Mass0? shouldn't it be Usb0?
pedderb
okay, the path is correct.

but it still won't work.

what patches and xex are meant here?
iinokento
Add this to your original launch.ini file

[plugins]
plugin1 = \Device\Harddisk0\Partition1\hddalive.xex

Copy hddalive.xex over to the root of the interal hdd.

Move launch.ini to flash_installer(xbins) and copy the folder over to the xbox hdd.

Run flash_installer with the new launch.ini

If it still doesnt work check your launch.ini file you currently have on the 360 and see if the plugin part has been added.

I just cant get this to work. my latest attempts have resulted in my 360 freezing during start-up. I erased the launch ini and xex as well add the hddalive from the root of the internal. i'm not sure if i'm messing up with the dash launch 1.0 installation or what.
apopberz
I'm still unable to get this working. My launch.ini looks like this

[plugins]
plugin1 = \Device\Harddisk0\Partition1\hddalive.xex

[QuickLaunchButtons]
Default = Hdd:\Freestyle\Default.xex
[Settings]
pingpatch = true
contpatch = true
fatalfreeze = true
regionspoof = true
dvdexitdash = true
xblaexitdash = true

and is sitting on the root of the internal drive, I have hddalive.xex in the same location.
I have a single usb device connected, a samsung external drive in the rear USB port. I am still having the drive spin down if it isn't read for ~5 mins.

Has anyone actually got this working and tested it?
