Well I haven't modded a console since my old hitachi and I'm kind of out of the loop here. I am trying to mod my cousins stock 74850c Lite-On and I have some questions:

Do I still need to buy an Xtractor spear to get the DVD key? I know this is how it used to be done and I'm not sure if it's done this way anymore. All I have is my VIA 6421 sata card, do I need anything else?

Also, I may mod another 83850c V1, does this follow the same process as the 74850c?

if you want or you can save alot of money and do the MRA hack on it instead using boxxdr method

nope, the 83850c v1 drive uses the drive tray method to get the key out using jungleflasher

for a stock 74 liteon you will need a rs232 to ttl adaptor to access the key at r707, using dvdkey32 in jungleflasher,some connectivity kits have this function built in,using a probe or a spear,or you can bridge r707.
this will give you the pure dvdkey,then the rest of the drive info will be sent over sata to build your dummy.bin.

A 83v1 you use lo83info in jungleflasher which will build your dummy.bin all over sata ,you cannot use the same method as a 74.You cannot probe r707 with this version.

83v2 and 93 drives requires mra hack,all versions of liteons can be mra hacked,but its still considered best for a 74 use dvdkey32,and for a 83v1 to use lo83info.
