What happened?
I soldered the correct points for my 1.4 motherboard to enable writing of the TSOP.
I then attempted a flash using some raincoat savegame (can't remember which one) and the screen went blank, and perhaps after 1 minute, the xbox shut down.
Now it powers up with a solid green light with no hard drive access and no video/audio output. The CD drive will still eject, but nothing loads.
The fix
I did a lot of reading from this board, and decided to attempt a 28-wire mod to fix it. I bought an XRAY3 modchip and got to work, using the wire from an old IDE cable.
I soldered 10 wires a night for a few days with no flux, and really took my time to do it right. Every time I solder in a wire I gave it a little tug to make sure it has a reasonable contact.
Did it work?
After all that work I was so excited to try it. I turned on the newly modded xbox and it didn't work!! IIRC there is now flashing red/green lights, so something's changed.
What should I do now?
I have a few options of what to do:
1. Does the XRAY3 come preflashed with a bios? I guess it does, so that shouldn't be a problem.
2. I could randomly go through and resolder 5 joints at a time and see if it starts working.
3. I used an old multicore IDE cable, but afterwards I realised I have some thinner single-core copper wire which would be much easier to work with. I could go through and re-solder in the thinner wire.
4. I didn't use flux - I think this made it more difficult and is why it took me hours. Perhaps I should start again using flux, then I'd be able to get bigger bits of solder on the board and a better contact.
