Hey guys, I posted this over on the xbmp website forums, but I thought I would see if anyone here had any thoughts.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, I've been trying to get this Shoutcast business all sorted out. I've tried it with both the 2.4 point release, and the 2.4 6-16-03 CVS.

I want to get a listing of the top stations from each genre. Shoutscraper doesn't work anymore, so I'm trying XNSPlsEdit. It will collect all the station info in .pls files (but not .sc). So I used XNSPlsEdit1.2 to harvest the various genres' .pls files, and they work from my PC.

When I try to open them from "My Music/Network (XNS)", it labels the file as "whatever.pls.mp3", and when I select it, nothing happens. .sc files work fine.

I put a couple .pls files into the "Internet Radio (SHOUTcast)" folder on the xbox hard drive. Using those, the shoutcast stream will open properly.

So, I tried to transfer all the .pls's into that folder, and they wouldn't transfer. sad.gif I guess the file names were too long; is there a limit?

So, at this point, the ideal situation seems to be if I could open the .pls files off my PC using XNS. Any help or alternative solutions is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Update:

I was able to get the .pls working using XNS, I think the problem was ZoneAlarm; I had not allowed RelaX internet access. Not sure why .sc's still worked, though...

Anyways, after that, I was trying to browse through the genre folders, and it kept locking up. Is there a limit on the filename length using XNS?

So I found a nifty freeware program called "The Rename" (http://www.herve-thouzard.com/therenamea.phtml) that would shorten all of the filenames to 42 characters. After that, I could browse through the folders no problem. But I noticed that .pls launched from XNS will not include the artist and song information, as when launched from the "Internet Radio" folder.

So I transferred all my files into the Xbox HD, and now everything's groovy. 2.4 complex will open the stream much quicker than the CVS builds. Not quite as easy as Shoutscraper, but what other options are there?

Oh, I almost forgot, not all of the .pls files work. Some you open, and nothing happens. uhh.gif
