Just to let everyone know who has XBOX 360 USB SPI NAND READER with the 12Mhz crystal,

You can use the nandreader to hack the ps3.

Here a simple instruction set:

1) Download compiled code for pics 18F modified for USB SPI here.

2) Program the usb spi, following the following instructions Start at "Prepare TIAO 360 USB SPI Interface "

3) Download Stealth Backup Manager. MOD EDIT: Link Removed, copyright code.

4) Copy Manager.pkg corresponding to you onto an external drive. (Formatted FAT32)

5) Go to your PS3 and do a complete power cycle. (Turn off completely with switch on back.)

6) Plug in your USB SPI, turn on the switch in back.

7) Power on your PS3 and hit the eject button immediately. (This is the part most people mess up.)

8) If you did it right, you will have two folders on your XMB. One that says “Install Package Files” and another “/app_home/PS3_GAME/”.

9) Plug in your USB drive with the Manager.pkg file. You should now see it in the “Install Package Files” folder. Run it. You should now have Package Manager installed. Once installed remove the external drive.

10) Insert your original PS3 game and run Package Manager. It will ask you whether you want to load it or back it up. Back it up!

11) After a few minutes you’ll have a copy of the game showing up. Select it and it will load it to the XMB menu. Screen will go black and kick you back out to the XMB.

12) On the XMB Hit the game icon and you can now start enjoying the backup copy of your PS3 game.

The stealth backup manager uses COD Modern Warfe data I believe, so you might need to delete any games saves or data associated to the game before installing the backup manager. Please note an original game in the ps3 is always required to run a backup. It does not matter which original game.

Instructions are provided without guaranteed or warranty.

Please visit the following thread for support and information.

PS work is not mine, just providing info, thanks goes out to those people who made this possible.

[quote]2) Program the usb spi, following the following instructions Start at "Prepare TIAO 360 USB SPI Interface "

shows for 360 drive reading jtag

do you still have to go through atmel flip program to write to it. how i do i get back to writing to 360 again.

make it universal for both !

thanks
Looouky
This has nothing to do with atmel at all, or the flip program this is to use the device that is know as the 360 USB SPI nand reader as a PS3 Jailbreak solution by reporgramming the pic using MCHPFSUSB v1.3 also referred to as PICDEM.

Did you actually go to the instructions and read them starting at "Prepare TIAO 360 USB SPI Interface" obviously not. Oh if you want the functionality of reading the 360 nand again here are the intructions for people who can't put 2 and 2 together.

1) Downlaod PICFLASH_v3b_plus2

2) Extract Files and use the PICFLASH.hex file to program the nand reader, instead of USB SPI HAX.hex. following the following instructions Start at "Prepare TIAO 360 USB SPI Interface "

PS I am not sure if you read correctly though I am not the developer. I am just an individual providing information, but thanks for grinding me.
ash1471
Same procedure but use the psgroove hex when flashing.

ASH

Also can be relashed to use to jtag at anytime.
Looouky
Ash,

I am glad it's worked for you.

I would like to know this as well.
SNAAAKE
uh...what about online play? you get banned from psn or something? I really dont care about ps3 anything at the moment(still trying to catch up dreamcast and ps2 stuff lol) but I just wanted to try it out. I do play games online and probably wont take the chance if it gets me banned or something.
Looouky
you can not play online as this needs fw 3.41, and you need 3.42 online to play.

The xbox xperts should work as long as the xtal is 12mhz, which I believe it is.
breathofice
okay it took me a second to figure this out. this is what i did

1) Downloaded PICFLASH_v3b_plus2

2) Extract Files and programmed the PICFLASH.hex to the usb spi

3) then i loaded the USB SPI HAX.hex and attempted to flash over the original picflash.hex when i did this errors came up and i chose cancel (used picflashes settings)

THATS IT!

I'm a moderator on XS Filter - 062508 - filtered.s. I did a preliminary test and it appears to be working. My PS3 is arriving on Thursday so I will be able to do a comprehensive test.

I am also planning on testing to see if it can be flashed back for NAND dumping.

Please PM me for a status update.
Looouky
version 1.2 is out I have yet to tested, if you guys feel up to it you are supposes to open up the latest hex and add the high lighted hex code at the very beginning like in the image.

breathofice
hey looouky whats the change of code for?
Looouky
The compiled hex file are usually not built for the spi, the hex string is to. Make the file compatible with the boot loader on the spi.

breathofice
okay but the hex code i have on my usb spi now works great... so i dont understand what it changes?
Looouky
I think you won't need. A disk anymore. I haven't tested yet though since I am away from my ps3, just wait for the one that is comiled for spi, I thought I just post the info for people who like being bleeding edge.
Looouky
Version 1.2 for the spi is out check the psx link I referenced in the first post you will find it on page 20 reply 494 of the linked thread.
ash1471
Send me a link mate or PM when you get it. First one working great smile.gif

Correct forgot to mention this otherwise it always fails on config flash.

ASH
breathofice
ok thanks looouky.... anyway you could host that new file for usb spi? im not familiar with hex compiling
Looouky
New version PSGrooPIC-V1.2b1-PIC18F2455.zip , compiled by MetalPhreak from psx-scene. Thanks goes out to him for thinking of us spi owners.

Also an ps3 ftp server has been released so that you can transfer files to it via a client.
breathofice
thanx for linking that looouky
pure3d2
I just tested flashing the .hex for the jailbreak and flashed the .hex back for 360 nand dumping and it appears to work.

I just bought a PS3 from the store so I will do a full test after work.
Looouky
awesome dude. you can go tell the guy xbox-xpert than since they said it wouldn't work.

LOL it didn't work for him because he dumped the current contents on the chip. Then he flashed it then flashed it back with the file he dumped.

I'll have a full tutorial written up tonight. I apologize on his behalf for dismissing your findings.

About 5 minutes after you left the chatroom, I was able to get it working.

Thanks again for your help!
Looouky
no problem, I just wanted to help and I am glad it's worked out for you. I guess you guys over at xbox-xpert should start advertising the spi again.

I am surprised this has not made it to be front page news, oh well. I guess enough people are aware by now.

When you flash click cancel (To keep current settings ) or it will fail on config data.

Hope this helps

Looouky
Might be an error just keep an eye out on psx-scene for an update, these guys work fast so there might be something up soon.

There you go, compiled by iLLness and confirmed working.
breathofice
yup... that one worked great
Looouky
Awesome, worked for me too.

This is brilliant thanks. Read a little about someone stating about porting to the pic 185xxx yesterday but this quick and fully functional is great.

I agree it should be front page news as loads of people have the spi nand flasher. Saying that I have posted it up over at max console aswell with little interest.

Strange to me,.... Think everyone wants it for there phone.

ASH
Looouky
Yeah a phone port is good, but how are you suppose to use your phone and play on the ps3 at the same time.

Hands free LOL.

Im with you mate. I think this is the most usefull port so far. Its great. Going to maplins tomorrow to see how much I can get all the parts for as Im sure this can be made for about £8 in the UK.

Any update on what v1.2 actually does?

ASH

Looouky
feature updates, newer is better anyhow right??? So far so good...
ash1471
Yeah forgot to mention that. The stealth backup manager didnt actually start a progress bar.

The original one works fine though.

ASH
oisuxx
worked for me.

thank you! i was getting tired of this TI-84!
Looouky
lol, now a calculator to hack the ps3, next is going to be our toasters. Next port is the toaster.
ddxcb
here is mine i got from a xbox-scene member

http://ddxcb.com:81/Nand/usb.jpg
Looouky
yup that should work just use the right file for your xtal, if that was your question.
scourge_23
Hey guys, I'm wondering is this would work. It says it has a PIC controller but it doesn't say which one so I'm wondering if it would work to jailbreak the ps3. Thanks in advance.
xboxhaxorz
right now i have the nand x from team xecuter, i will probably just buy the spi flasher from XS Filter - 062508 - filtered.s to support them and that way i dont have to go flashing my programmer back and forth

i assume, we flash the ps3 and then remove the programmer similar to the jtag hack? or does it need to plugged in all the time?
kain
Will this one work for this hack? thanks.

that will work, just use the right file for xtal.

that will probably work as well, anything that usb spi flasher will work as long as you use the right for xtal. You can always flash it back if doesn't .

and the device needs to be plugged into the ps3 at all times.

i don't think the nand-x works for this, I am not sure what components it uses so I can't say for sure. Yes it has to be plugged in to the usb port at all times.
warbeast
this gives me another reason to swap from lpt to usb for 360 jtag biggrin.gif

i looked up the parts on maplins and farnell the flasher would cost about £10 and the programer about £5 but then found a shop selling pre built 360 spi flashers with bootloader for £16 so just ordered one i just hope it has the 12MHZ resonator and PIC18F2455 unsure.gif
Looouky
doesn't need 12, there are files for 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20
atreyu187
Are you serious this is the most awesome thing ever!!! My 360 is my PS3 modchip now laugh.gif I have been looking everywhere trying to get my hands on this and low and behold there was one sitting right next to my PS3 the whole time. Now I just remove my 360 HDD insert USB cable and BAM I am in business!! I will have to flash it back once I want to flash my 360 but how often does that happen twice a year? Man simply put funny, i can't wait show all my friends and show them my 360 is my PS3 mod.
