Hi, i bought a ps3 60gb cecha01 with replaced KEM-400AAA optical block for $200 CAD.
Came with one controller with charge cable and one game and 3.41 ss.
It works perfect for all ps2 and ps3 games i have tested.

Last night i purchased this jb board:

I am totally new to the ps3. Does the system ask me if i want to update? or does it just auto update via wifi?
What measures can be taken to make it update proof? I have kids and their friends to worry about.

Thanks.

it doesnt auto update. asks you to do it if you wanna get on psn. you simply dont do it.

unplug the ethernet cord if anything.. blink.gif

Ok, so just avoid psn and i'm good?
The ps3 has built in wifi...I wouldnt need an ethernet cord to unplug.
Unpluging my wireless router is out of the question.
Also there is an update option in the menu itself...I want to kill any options to update.
Remember, I have kids.

They already updated one of my jtag 360, via game disk as i didnt remove the resistor (dumb Dad).
I want this ps3 bullet proof.

Thanks

Give it a static ip and then only allow that ip access to your network. Or you could find out which ports psn uses and block them.

easiest way to disable access to the internet on your ps3, without limiting access to your internal network is to configure your network settings manually, then just use 1.0.0.1 as your default gateway/dns server.
Rustmonkey
You can still use DHCP, just change your DNS server to a bogus number when setting up the connection - this continues to give you network access (so you can FTP to the PS3) but will not allow your PS3 onto the internet.

You will also want to be careful of new games that will be coming out. Any of these new games when they come out will likely have the update on the game disk itself and will require the console to update to play them. You dont want to mess with any games that will be coming out over the next few months until a custom firmware is made for the ps3 or some other way to bypass the update to play the new games.
