It was the contests and the no solder mods... we had a nice little community going... then a HUGE influx of newbies. The old generation (myself included) were burned-out and bitter.
"General" became our refuge, away from the newbs, huddling in our little groups and identities... I wasn't helping anymore, and told Xant to get rid of my "modship"... I wasn't using it anyway anymore.
The apex of the decline (which I know is a oxymoron) was the creation of X-Mafia. I missed most of it, but witnessed the aftermath... though I was never "officially" a member of the X-mafia, I was "with" them. The place we had loved was in most eyes no more...
We have a new "haven" now... which is good and bad for this place. We can keep most of our dirty laundry out of here... If the situation arises though, it gives us a place to "plot", which can be dangerous for anyone who rubs us the wrong way.
As far as mods and complaints... I have my trust in BenJ and HSD (and I only speak for myself). I don't anything against the other mods personally, but those are the guys that I "know"...
IF you were here in the old days and liked it or enjoyed the silliness of the other night... know there is a place for you if you want to go there... and I'll leave it at that.

Man talk about trauma! I had a terrible life changing decision to make the other day...tuna...or ham and cheese. God you should have seen the sweat pouring off my brow!
Kard, did you hear Bagels doctor got in touch with Cheerio about the...well..you know...things falling off disease?
Sorry to hear about the polio though bro! It is curable though, and your Aunt Flo will get better eventually, and be back to visiting once a month!

| About what time did you guys start seeing a change in the X-S community? What started it? |
The Matrix
All of you know this to be true, and it is not refutable.
To all the "like it or leave it" jackasses on Kard's case..fuck you. Plain and simple huh? And for the ones with swastikas in their sigs...you fucked up, and if you don't like the president....then take your own advice as you have spouted off in these lately craptastic forums and make like a tree.
For the ones that think it's a RIGHT to post crap like that on the board, it's not. It's a privledge. If that was Jesse Jackson in that sig with a German Cross around his neck you would be a racist wouldn't you?
As far as deleting the general forum because of repetition, then delete them all except for the sale forum.
Modchip forum : I think my Xbox is dead...should I have used that 500watt iron?
TSOP forum : What's a TSOP?
DVD Forum : Why don't CD-R's work in my Xbox?
Technical : Do I need a modchip to play copied games? How do I copy games?
It happens across the board, and should be expected. Not poking fun at any of those questions, just saying they ALWAYS come up. There's nothing new, it's all been pretty much covered what can be done. Sure there's simple piddly exploits that someone "found", and no way would a game publisher inherently put a way into their games allowing such a thing intentionally to boost their sales would they?
And as far as "n00bs" lets get a fix on what people really mean when they say n00b. "n00b : FUCKING MORON that doesn't bother trying to learn a bit before posting. Or someone that shows complete ignorance without an attempt to better themselves." n00b does not mean "new person" as far as I'm concerned.
Edit : Actually the dashboard exploit does look kinda interesting =)

No i havent noticed any change in the forums cause I only joined this spring. It seems to be both good and bad,
a place where I can get the info I need by using the search button at the top...
a place where I can laugh my ass of at some of the remarks
a place where I can be shocked at some of the remarks
Its actually sometimes better than a movie...
I agree with Xeero though, if you have personal problems, there is no need to take it out on the other people here...they have nothing to do with your problem. Go play Burnout2 or something else where you can get rid of that stress more effectively...Ive heard that Burnout2 really works wonders.

| kard63, among others, is a denizen of General Chat. Like Mage said, the rest of the forums are fantastic. If it were my call, I'd kill General Chat and let the assholes go be assholes at a different forum. I wouldn't have said the same thing 8 months ago, but we didn't have the same number of lobotomies-gone-wrong at that time, and my feeling was that the greater portion of the discussion in that forum was harmless. By now, I'm ready to give up on the lot of those that restrict themselves to General Chat and get this forum back to the basics: Xbox discussion. |
I think the lack of the General Chat forum would result in this site dying (literally).
I believe that General is the main provider of content for this site (as of now anyway),
whether you want to admit it or not. Xbox topics are great, but there are
times when its slow. People read the general forum because its everchanging.
It's like a soap opera. I spend 99% of my time in general, because I have done
everything that I have wanted to to my xbox. When something new comes out
that I feel that I want to do, I will post and read the appropriate forum.
Take away the general forum and 1 of 2 things will happen.... 1.) The other
forums will become home to off topic posts or 2.) The flow of people visiting
the site will slow wayyyyy down.
and you KNOW THIS....MANNNNN!

Or maybe, only the people who really care about xbox-related matters would stay?
Not everyone here is just here for general chat
The site would lose some traffic, but you'd be suprised how many people (viewers) aren't here to watch the silly antics of general chat.
It might not be all that bad, whatever happens, happens.
As it stands I can mostly ignore it if need be.

I agree that everyone is not here to view
the "silly antics" of the general forum.
But, I have to wonder if they closed
the general forum down, what would
you do Mage? Your post count is 62%
in the General Forum. The xbox is
what gave us our common interest.
If 2 people become friends because
they share 1 interest, they wont stay
friends unless other interests and ideas are discussed.
Does that make sense? I am saying
if you close off all other subjects other
than xbox, no matter how great that subject is,
people are going to lose interest.

dssripper you are putting personal things forward, because you say you spend 99% of the time in the general forum, you think everyone does? I hardly am in the general forum anymore, first thing I check is the mod forum...
At another forum that I am at, there are plenty of moderators/admin around, and if they spot anything wrong [for example flaming] they will put that person in a thread called detention. Then they cannot enter any other part of the forum till they are out. They have 3 strikes, first is 24hrs, etc, etc.... But also the sign up process is limited now, rather than straight forward like xbox scene [think you got to pay for it now].

I am not implying that everyone spends their time
in the general forum. I am saying that ALOT of
members hang out here because their xbox is
not their peak interest at the moment.
I am trying to say that general chat is
a very popular place because people who
have joined the site have other interests
besides the xbox. If people don't like
the general forum then don't visit. It's a personal
choice.

Yep, that percentage has been going down over the last few months, as I post more in other forums compared to general chat.
The difference is I wouldn't mind if general chat is gone, I am not that partial to it.
Not to mention many threads that have existed in general chat were indeed about the xbox, so you cannot try simple logic of 62% in general chat is equal to 62% not about xbox.

Well i havent even been here a month and well... yea a little, less people come in because of several wars... recentally regarding one with a Very Very well known member....
But people just have to stick tough times out, either not come on, or just shutup and listen... Theres flames in almost ever thread.. although some will break into wars most dont...
I think the site is getting better and better now that ALL people are taking action and watching themselves... personally i dont know if they did the house clean yet or not.. but if they did then for all the people still here should know what im talking about and should probally agree with me...
But yet no matter how bad this site gets... Theres some of us (me) that will always be here and work for a better place... For those who took the time to read this are most likely the *behaved* ones and for those who get in trouble here dont take any of this offensively...
So cheers

and have a happy 4th
