Full Version: Trying To Ftp To Xbox, No Connection
Scenyx Entertainment Community > Xbox1 Forums > Software Forums > Utilities that run on your PC (xbox related)
Mr. D
I've been trying to ftp to my original xbox but a connection is either;

1. not being made
2. being made and then lost or refused

I've read guides here and all over the place with no luck.

Xbox is softmodded with unleashx dashboard, PC is running XP service pack 3.

I've tried cuteftp, smartftp, coreftp lite, flashfxp, and filezilla.

As for physical setup, I only have one ethernet port on my computer, so I've tried unplugging the cable from there and into my xbox, but when I try to ftp that way, my computer says there's no route to the host. My brother used to ftp all the time to my xbox and his, and he said all I had to do for physical setup was unplug the ethernet cable from the computer and into the xbox, unless I just misunderstood him. But as I said, this doesn't work.

Do I just need to go buy a crossover cable, or can you guys help me out here?

You should be in the newbie section. This question is asked so many times it's laughable.

The simplest version is to plug your Xbox into a spare port on your broadband router or switch, and set the Xbox to use DHCP for its network address. If you don't have a spare port on your router/switch, then read on.

To connect the PC directly to your Xbox you might need a crossover cable - it depends on if your PC NIC supports auto-crossover. If the green LED above your Xbox network connection lights up, and your PC says "limited connectivity" when you connect the two together then your current cable is fine, otherwise you'll need a crossover cable.

Once that's sorted, you need to manually set up the IP address on your PC and your Xbox so that they are different, but both in the same subnet. Give the PC address 192.168.1.100, and the Xbox IP address 192.168.1.101, both with subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and with default gateway 192.168.1.100.

Use Filezilla.

If it doesn't work straight away, temporarily turn off your PC firewall and AV.

I apologize, I know that tons of people have this problem, I just wasn't able to find a solution that worked for me.

About the Xbox LED, it does light up green, however my computer says, "Local Area Connection, a network cable is unplugged."
Heimdall
That's odd.

Just go ahead and set the IP addresses manually, and see if it works - it only takes 5 minutes.
Mr. D
Yeah, I've tried that before. I've used 192.168.0.3 for my xbox, 192.168.1.101, etc. For PC I've tried 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.0.2, still no luck with either set. I've set both subnets to the same, and earlier I set my Xbox's default gateway the same as my computer's IP, but still nothing.

When using filezilla, I can get it to where it will say connected, waiting for welcome message, but shortly after that it disconnects. Using SmartFTP I've gotten messages such as, "An established connection was aborted by the software in the host machine," and such.
Heimdall
Set it up using the IP addresses I suggested, and turn off your firewall / AV.

If the problem is still there, use Filezilla, and post the log file here.
Mr. D
Status: Connecting to 192.168.1.101:21...

I tried pinging the xbox, but I get a "request timed out" message.
Heimdall
So, it's either your firewall / AV, or the cable.
Mr. D
As much as I'd like to say it's my firewall, I highly doubt that's it. Port 21 and 20 are open, filezilla has been added as an exception, and all. I suppose I'll just end up buying a crossover cable.

Thanks for the help.
Heimdall
Just humour me - temporarily turn the firewall off completely. They don't all behave properly!
Mr. D
Yeah, it was completely off, unfortunately. AVG resident shield was disabled as well.
