I'm brand new to this, but I've been able to set up my modded xbox to recieve files from my PC using Flash FXP......Is there a way that I can just use my xbox and pull files off my home network to that I can watch on my T.V. that is connected to the xbox.....I don't want to have to download a movie from my PC to the xbox then watch it, can I just access the same movie from the xbox and watch it without downloading it.....I have EvelotionX and its connected to the Home Network Via ethernet cable...

Thanks

Heimdall
On your PC share the folder with your movies. Load XBMC on your Xbox, add the shared folder as a video source, scan the folder into the library.

Videos - add source.

If you have a home network and an xbox plugged up to the network you can very easily share files via SAMBA share (smb). To set this up, in XBMC go to a source: such as video, music, or pictures or just go to your file explorer and add a new source. You want a SMB Network source for this. All computers on a network have a name, mine is Sasquatch, then I have a folder called "To-Xbox". To connect to my home computer I added a SMB share and typed in: SMB://Sasquatch/To-Xbox/ and set it. Now, all I have to do to get to the folder is just click on the source and it takes a couple of seconds and then there it is! Also, if you have Windows Vista (BOO!) or Windows 7, they can automatically detect the XBMC dash when it is loaded and you can choose to "Automatically allow connection".
I didn't know if you needed a more detail breakdown or not but I figured I would just try to help.

OK thanks.....Under each folder, my files, videos, pictures, ect, there is a "Workgroup SMB" folder......But when I select it, I get an "Error" NT_status_object_name_not_found........

Where do you type this...SMB://Sasquatch/To-Xbox/.......on the xbox side or on the PC side....

Thanks.....getting closer I think

Just select Videos - add source, then browse for your PC videos folder from your Xbox. It takes less time than typing this message. rolleyes.gif

Thats the problem....When I goto videos, I see no place to "Add Source"

OK got it working....

Apparently I changed the IP address on the xbox, but it is different then the IP addtress for XBMC????

I just went into the XBMC and set the IP address and now I can access the home network....

Thanks

Indeed, every program on the console needs to have an IP set separately. This is because the machine can only run one program at a time (on a PC, you're always running an underlying operating system (eg Windows), so you can just set an IP once and be done with it).

Thanks....

Does anyone know if I can get the remote control used for watching DVD's and use it to watch movies and such that I'm watching through XBMC...

Fast foreward, pause, ect.

XBMC does support the X-Box DVD remote, yes.
