hi,

i have a small monitor that needs a 12v power supply to run it. I want to get the power from the xbox so i tried connecting red a black to the power part of the mainboard. red in 4 and black in 10. there is no power coming through to the screen however i cant keep trying different ways as i will slowly mess up the connection.

does anyone know what part i would use to get this power i need?

thank you

Do you not like your xbox 360 very much?

What makes you think the x360 has enough extra power for your monitor?

How big is this monitor? It might be able to power a tiny little car tv sized screen but you need to solder into the main power rail. RDC wrote a nice document showing all the voltage points.

I found this link EDIT - link banned on xbox-scene.

Try search on google for "rdc xbox 360 voltage points"

you need to ground the power on pin on your xbox psu off course; without sending the 'power-on' signal by your xbox; the psu will not power on (you should only have power on the standby line of the psu; i don't know how much that is on the xbox psu. 3.3 or 5 volt? (5 volt is normal for computers; the old xbox uses 3.3 or 5 volt)).

you have power on your psu if:
xbox 360 sends the power on signal to your xbox; then your psu kicks in to give all the voltage you need / it can supply

OR

ground the ps-on pin of the psu; then the full power will be supplied as soon as you power the psu (put the power cord into the wall outlet).

it might be save to put a fuse between the xbox psu and your lcd; a couple of amps will do. cost around 1 or 2 dollars...(fuse holder included). better save then sorry
