Does anyone know the specs on the current fan for the Slim? What info I'm looking for:
Fan Size LxWxH
CFM Output
dBA
How it connects to the motherboard
And if this fan will work as a replacement that will keep my console properly cool and hopefully not add too much noise to the console:

Here's a pic of how it connects:
http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/CLBtoZid3ZgZZN56.hugeIt's 4 pin PWM so have to look for that.. or could do a mod so it runs on 12v
Check the other topic about Slim fan mod by 'undmor', there's some specs there

That's the same fan I have in mine running at 12v, it's not that loud at all but def. louder than stock. I love it too looks great in there.

Just found this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUUxt6GBV6A - Video shows 3 pin, but xbox one is 4pin.
If the xbox fan connector can be removed you could just buy a 2/3pin fan, remove the connector off that and the xbox fan, then wire the fan you bought to the xbox fan connector, would only take a few minutes, and you can use anything to remove the connector.
Hope that helps

Per this image:
http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/CLBtoZid3ZgZZN56.huge couldn't I buy maybe an adapter? Or would it be easy to make the 3 wire fan work with the 4 wire connector on the board?

If you can find the adapter, it should work.. don't think they'd cost a lot though. Would be 4 pin pwm to 3 pin

Problem is that 4th pin is for controlling fan speeds... from what I have seen so far (still doing research) i should be able to plug a 3pin into the 4 pin connector and the fan will just run at full rpm, my only problem is knowing which 3 to plug the fan into.
ethan071891 could you maybe show me close up pic of how you got everything installed? And did you cut the corners from the fan so it would fit?

for 12v you have to use the first two or three pins from left to right:

for my mod i did this:

Yeah I bought that same fan, the problem im having is after trimming the corners and filing still won't fit. I don't want to cut on the fan shroud since I dont want to make changes permanent unless I could find another fan shroud. Those that have done this please help im getting frustrated. Also all I hooked up was the black and red wires is that the correct way. Thanks again in advance.

undmor did the fan you bought only come with 2 wires? the one I'm thinking of purchasing has 3... And can you show those of us curious how you cut the edges of your fan to fit the shroud? Thanks.

Pics will have to wait till the weekend but I just wired the power and ground to the spots underneath where the psu plugs in. And no I didn't cut the corners just screwed it down to the heat sink with the screws that were in the stock fan.

did you use the existing fan shroud as well? I was under the impression the square fans wouldn't fit properly...

No I'm not using a shroud at all, just the square fan screwed down to the heatsink. Seems to be working great so far.

you screwed the fan?
thats not possible cuz the holes are 80mm holes so its just possible to srew 80mm fans, or did you drill extra holes?
the original fan is a 92mm fan but has 80mm holes.
and for the fan shroud, you dont have to use it but it keeps the fan in perfect position, you just have to cut the corners of the fan.
my fan had 3 wires but i removed the third wire cuz you dont need it.
i will add some pics later!
p.s.
you dont have to srew down the fan since the shroud keeps it in position!

No. Never tap power from the dvd drive unless your stupid and want to kill your xbox. Take it from under the power connector.

iv fixed a few xbox's who have died from that so it does cause problems. and there are alot of people who care about it. you would be a fool to tap into the dvd drives power

it is the same as tapping into the mothermboard power. cutting power from the board

Why would you solder it to board when you can easily buy an adapter or just wire it up to a 4pin adapter? Makes no sense
ethan071891
Feb 2 2011, 06:41 PM
12v power source? And it's easier than buying something else and waiting for it to be delivered. Spending extra money that doesn't need to be spent to me makes no sense.
NLT89
Feb 2 2011, 08:39 PM
Extra money, mm.. sometimes you can get extra adapters with fans if you buy the right ones, so when you order a fan, check what comes with it, if it doesn't have what you need, order it with the fan.. At least then if you find a better fan you can just swap it without messing about with de-soldering + soldering again.

It really doesnt bother me, I don't mind soldering. But you can do it anyway you like I suppose. But to me soldering to the board was the quickest, easiest way to go.

I used that same fan and finally just trimmed little pockets into the shroud to accept the leds that poke out after trimming. I hooked the fan up using the red and black and yellow wires and the fan runs pretty fast and have to say it keeps it cool. I dont know if its necessary to solder to the board. It is quite a bit louder than stock but at least I know its getting cooled good.

Black & Red are all you need, but correct me if i'm wrong but this is same wiring as a pc? Red = 5v Yellow = 12v Blue = Control wire and Black = negative. So you could buy a 2 pin fan like: (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106155&cm_re=92mm_led_fan-_-35-106-155-_-Product) wire it up to yellow + black to get your 12v then stick the control switch out the back of the xbox and control your fan the way you want, correct?

This may be the lazy method but would it be possible to buy an adapter for this fan:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...6-155-_-ProductTo fit this plug:
http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/CLBtoZid3ZgZZN56.hugeOr simply just buy a blue LED fan that fit's the slims outlet?

For 12V, the best way to get the right voltage, use yellow (+) and black (-) under the power socket.
For 5V, dont use the purple one, get it form hdd power cable.
