Its origins

What does it do?
For softmodded Xboxes:
* If your Xbox will boot a rescue disc, no matter which softmod you have on there this disk will upgrade it to the latest MS Dash and the latest Krayzie or Kingroach softmod - your choice. And, apart from making a couple of choices to start with, and confirming a couple of intermediate questions, it's one-click - including removing the old softmod and populating the shadow C. Importantly, it preserves the content of your E drive, including gamesaves (apart from 007, MA and SC).
* While it's doing that it installs the latest UnleashX and EvolutionX dashboards and the XBMC shortcut.
* It installs Krayzie gamesaves on all Xboxes (Krayzie and Kingroach) to provide a useful back door.
* It has one-click fixes to all common softmod problems:
- turn shadow C on and off (with visual indication)
- turn virtual eeprom on and off (with visual indication)
- enable or disable 480p and VGA
* It can remove all copies of eeprom.bin, thus eliminating the eeprom mismatch issue that is a common cause of blank screens and other problems.
* It can replace and automatically repopulate a corrupt shadowc, again with only one click.
* It implements ldotsfan's lxhdm for softmod hard disk upgrades, in only three steps, including repopulating the new shadow C and launching XBPartitioner 1.1 for extended partition formatting, so you don't get data corruption on large drives.

For chipped / flashed Xboxes:
* It only has the latest BIOSes, and all have LBA48 for large disk support
* It has a disk rebuilding option that automatically launches XBPartitioner 1.1 for extended partition formatting, so you don't get data corruption on large drives
* It can flash all TSOP types, including Winbond, and automatically set up the dashboards to work with the new BIOS.
* After TSOP flashing it has one-click cleaning for the disk, removing the softmod and installing a clean C.
* If you back out of the TSOP flash it has an option to clean up the disk and reset it to its original state.
* It installs Krayzie gamesaves on flashed Xboxes to provide a useful back door, in case your chip fails.

For all Xboxes:
* It installs common applications (including XBMC) to E or F
* It has one-click dashboard switching, putting the dashboard in the right place depending on your mod type. If you have XBMC installed as an application you can also select it as a dashboard.
* It supports blind video mode switching. If you've accidentally set your Xbox to PAL and your TV is NTSC only so you can't see the screen (or vice-versa), you can restore it simply with a couple of button presses and a couple of reboots.
* It has simple HD video mode enabling options that bypass virtual eeprom and launch the appropriate tools
* It installs a complementary UnleashX menu and a toolset to allow you to switch dashboards and fix common softmod problems without needing the rescue disc.
* Where one-click operation is infeasible, step-by-step instructions are provided on-screen.
* It has on-screen instructions to help you.
* It also has lots of error checking to prevent you from messing up your Xbox as far as possible!

though i have wondered if it will work as an app? if i unpack the iso put it in a folder called HeXEn, and boot the default XBE?

Not directly, because it looks for files on D:\

It wouldn't be too difficult to install it on E:\ then do a search and replace on config.xml to repoint all of the D:\ references to a location on E:\, but not E:\HeXEn\, because I think I've already used E:\HeXEn\

I am very curious about that statement above. On a softmod xbox, does this mean you can swap any hard drive from an xbox to another xbox without a problem? Like in the sense of literally just removing the hard drive without any unlocking and then put it in an xbox with a different motherboard?

No, it means what it says. It eliminates the eeprom mismatch issue that is a common cause of blank screens and other problems - no mention of swapping disks or removing the need for disk unlocking and locking.

I would be interested in this, haven't had a DVD drive for a while and have just upgraded my HDD to a Seagate 400gb, but now i need to change my bios from iND-5003.06 to iND-5003.67, got the winbond W49F020T so i know i need to use raincoat, jus not sure how.

Can't use the Eurasia disc or this one, if you could give me some pointers to get it going from HDD i wouldn't mind trying this out. Thanks Heimdall great work, keeping the scene alive

Well readig the post he seems to say if you extract the contents opf the dvd to E:\foldername
(the folder name cant be hexen)
Then on your pc open config.xml with an edit program, and do a search replace.
Search for : D:\
replace with E:\Foldername\

it should work like an app

I.e

You make the folder HexInst on E:\
"e:\hexinst"
Then extract all the contents of the hexen disk to
"e:\hexinst"
then edit
"E:\hexinst\config.xml"
With the search replace function of notepad or similar
and replace D:\ with E:\hexinst\
and then run hexen from E:\hexinst\
That should work..

Im just summerizing from the info given in the post you quoted. So you may want to wait for heimdall. But that is my understanding of what the post says.

Yeah i tried not long after my post, just replaced "D:\" with "E:\hex\" it works perfectly, flashed my Winbond chip, threw in my 400gb HD, now just need to ftp my stuff over. Cheers shambles1980 and cheers heimdall, the app works great, just need a CD re-writer so i can burn it to disc for emergency's

Obviously you can't do that!

It runs from a DVD, or (as described in the posts above) you can copy it to the hard drive to do things like reflash the TSOP etc. If you are upgrading the drive then there isn't a hard drive to run it from.......

The problem is that once you hotswap there isn't anything on the Xbox to format the new disk.

Chimp should work.

Alternatively you could try running UnleashX with a config that included the menu item:

<Item Action="PrepareHD">Prepare New HD</Item>

Load UnleashX, then hotswap, then select "Prepare New HD from the menu.

That will format the new disk with a basic format, and should install a dash as well, and once that's done you can use FTP to copy XBPartitioner 1.1 to properly format the F/G partitions, and also copy any other files you want.

How big is the ISO HeXEn? I am not sure if I unzipped it correctly. I use 7-Zip and the iso I got was 486MB. Is this correct?

Heimdall, I'm trying to format a sata 2tb drive for a softmodded 1.6 xbox with this disc.
I read all the instructions on the disc and followed them exactly, but my screen freezes during the preparation stage. Right after the message that says what to choose after preparation is complete, a gray unleashx logo appears, but no other status updates come up.

Any idea why this might occur? This is the same xbox I was trying to upgrade using xboxhdm.

I think your problem is that large drives and SATA adapters are on the bleeding edge as far as Xbox 1 is concerned. Some work, and others don't.

The first thing I'd try is to take the disk (as it is, don't erase or format it), and try to lock it with xboxhdm 1.9 option 3 or 4, or maybe use xboxhdm 2.2, or maybe chimp 2618 to try to lock it. If that works then you'll need to use XBPartitioner 1.0 to set up the disk initially, then use XBPartitioner 1.1 to get the cluster sizes right.

If that doesn't work then all I can suggest is that you try chimp 2618 to clone your original disk from scratch.

So, you would NOT attempt step 2.4.3a (build the new disc ntsc) on Hexen?
I attempted step 2.4.2 twice. The first time it stayed on the screen for 30+ mins, and I shut it off and restarted, thinking it had frozen. The second time the same thing happened and I turned it off after 15 minutes.
Also, when I booted xbox with new unformatted hdd in, I got error 14 instead of error 5 (I don't know if that matters).

What happens during the preparation stage (partitioning, etc.)? Is it likely that preparation did or did not occur, since my screen froze at the beginning of the process?

If you're not getting beyond step 2.4.2 then you should try using chimp 2618 instead. There's no guarantee that it will work any better, but as it's linux based it uses different disk access routines so might work, and you have nothing to lose.

You could also try xboxhdm 2.2 using the same logic - it's based on a linux kernel which might have more flexible / tolerant disk access routines.

Yes it is illegal because it contains XDK compiled code and the MS Dash, and if you post or PM a link you can expect a short holiday from here...... as per the rules.

Seriously, Google finds loads of hits, and at least two of the torrents and one of the direct downloads are working perfectly.

is it normal for this disc to boot to a black screen? (i know the Thompson drive in it does load up a Avalaunch boot disc (on CD-RW burned @ 4x) a made a while back so it's got to be fine)

because the disc don't seem to work even though it attempts to load and the lights on the XBox change colors

note: my XBox is fine (XBox's v1.0 TSOP with x2.4981 custom bios i made to my liking with boot order) but i am just trying to load this bootable disc up to mess with it a bit as it seems this can do ALL TSOP's?

because all of my TSOP XBox's i flashed using Evox (just ran it from the hard drive along with bios file there (custom x2.4981)) and it appears that some can't be flashed easy with Evox by itself but all of the ones i got worked real easy with Evox. so i guess main reason i am looking into this is because if the supposed ease of use for the not super easy to flash TSOP XBox's that you supposedly have to use Raincoat 0.7 which don't look to easy which is why i think this disc would come in handy in case i ever run into a XBox that Evox itself can't flash properly as all of the XBox's i have done are easy to flash with Evox as they are all v1.0.

i got 5 XBox's... 3 TSOP v1.0 and a 1.6 which i recently rebuilt the LPC stuff so i could install the Xecuter 2.6 chip into it which i removed from a XBox1 console as it was the only way to get that v1.6 console working again since when i got it, it had a dead hard drive and no way i could even attempt softmod to get the EEPROM data off of it. but basically i got 3 TSOP XBox's and 2 more with modchips (i.e. Xecuter 2.6 in a v1.6 XBox and a Xecuter 2.3B Pro in a v1.0 XBox) in them.

p.s. the size of the .ISO i got is... "486 MB (509,935,616 bytes)" (which i assume is the latest version?)

Burn it to DVD-R at 4x or slower. Cold boot, the LED turns red, then wait 40-50 seconds for the menu to load.

is DVD-R critical? (the reason i would imagine a CD-RW disc is fine is because these same disc's load up my Avalaunch CD-RW i made a while back fine)

because it does attempt to boot from CD-RW (which i burned at 4x) but after the disc loads (from cold boot) the XBox light switches between all three colors (Green/Orange/Red) and keeps cycling and it stays on the XBOX logo with the 'XECUTER2' there also.

p.s. it's been sitting there for a good few minutes+ now and sticking my head up to the XBox don't sound like it's loading anything either.

side note: i can tell the controllers lost connection to the XBox side to as i got a wireless Logitech controller and i can tell it lost connection by the way it's acting when it's doing what it's doing now.

EDIT:

it loads the disc (DVD+RW) from within XBMC (and does what you say it will) but i can't seem to get it to take from a straight up cold boot which is obviously critical if you need it to work.

will DVD+R discs work also? (but if i need DVD-R i should be good because i got the best which is Verbatim DVD-R)

EDIT #2:

well apparently the CD-RW disc matters as even when it see's the disc within XBMC it will error just like it does from cold boot (i.e. flashing green/orange/red like i explained above) unlike the DVD+RW (which loads from withing XBMC but i can't get it to boot from the disc directly) which makes me think that the disc does matter as loading from within XBMC the DVD+RW works and loads up fine where as the CD-RW locks just like it does once it attempts to boot from a cold boot.

but just for confirmation... this disc CAN flash ANY TSOP, right? (i.e. from v1.0 through 1.5)

DVD-R is universally readable on all working Xbox DVD drives. Other disc types are very variable, and risky - the menu might load, but the content might not read properly. So yes, DVD-R is quite critical.

Yes, it flashes all TSOP types. It doesn't get round the nausea with Sharp TSOPs (having to break and make connections in the middle of the process), but that's a hardware limitation.

Ahh, i see. thanks for clearing that up.

so basically if i burn this onto a DVD-R even my crappy Thompson drives that have trouble reading CD-RW should be able to read the DVD-R discs?

because i believe out of the 3-4 Thompson drives i got only one of them seems to load from CD-RW during a cold boot and that sometimes takes a few attempts where as the rest just won't boot from CD-RW after many attempts.

also... when the discs install XBMC etc where do they go to anyways?

i ask because my custom x2.4981 i made has a boot order like this (which is on all of my TSOP'ed v1.0 XBox's), which i prefer to keep...

d:\default.xbe (like usual)
e:\xbmc\default.xbe
c:\unleashx.xbe
c:\avalaunch.xbe

does your disc make use of any of those? (i think nowadays XBMC is a good thing to make stock since i would guess many people are using their XBox's mainly for a media player nowadays more than games for those of us still using it. lol)

also... i see on their with the extracted 'StockFiles' folder... is that MS dash 5960.03? (because the dashboard i got on my PC that's stock is 5960.01 which seems to work fine on my v1.6 XBox but i thought i heard that 5960.03 might be needed for a v1.6b XBox?, but i am not sure on that)

but i guess i mostly have a few questions as i might consider remaking the disc with updated XBMC and a few other tweaks like using my custom x2.4981 instead of the 'x2.4981.06.bin' that's on the disc which has a boot order of...

e:\Dash\UnleashX\unleashx.xbe
e:\Dashboard\default.xbe

also... will this disc even allow a bios flash without the 'BiosIDs'? , as i see "(256) x2.4981.06 HeXEn=535C802FACCD1CE56F62216BC649F92F" which i assume the program checks in relation to that x2.4981.06 bios as that's the same MD5 i see when i load that file into XBtool (which is made for customization of x2.4981)

so i guess i am mainly concerned with getting the disc to format the drive and flash my particular custom x2.4981.06 bios to ANY TSOP from XBox v1.0-1.5 as after that's done i can just ftp in and setup the rest myself manually

p.s. because what i currently have for preparing a fresh drive etc is a Evox CD-RW boot disc which quickly formats the partitions etc and then after that's done i power off system and then boot the avalaunch CD-RW boot disc and then manually ftp in and transfer the files to their correct places.

I haven't modified any of the BIOSes - they all come with their standard dash locations, one of which is always C:\evoxdash.xbe. HeXEn, like ALL installation discs, assumes that one of the default dash locations in the BIOS is C:\evoxdash.xbe. It's the closest to a standard configuration that exists in the Xbox world. If you want to change it then that's fine, but lots of the features on HeXEn (like dash switching) simply won't work if the dash is somewhere else, so be prepared for a whole pile of changes - it's not as simple as just putting another BIOS on there.

HeXEn installs XBMC in E:\Apps\XBMC (or F:\Apps\XBMC). If you want it as your primary dash it puts a shortcut at C:\evoxdash.xbe. Again, that's the nearest there is to a standard installation for XBMC.

i could have sworn the x2.4981 file i downloaded from xbins has a different boot order than the one on that installation disc.

also, i am pretty sure the x2.5035 is changed also as the x2.5035 i got from xbins (which is as official download place you can get) the x2config.ini has this in there (June 7th 2005 1:37pm (untouched date))...

also.... i guess main reason i avoid 'evoxdash.xbe' in my custom x2.4981 boot is that FTP wise it seems to require configuration of the FTP through PC prior to loading it as where as UnleashX (or Avalaunch) you can adjust FTP settings right from the screen in it's options.

p.s. i could go back to x2.5035 with the x2config.ini on E partition but i guess i preferred the quicker boot up of x2.4981 and it's more permanent with what it will load up where as if something happens with the hard drive and the x2config.ini etc gets messed up it could be a bit of a issue but i i guess the more i think about it... i might consider going back to x2.5035 since even if that where to happen and i lose my E:\XBMC\Default.xbe boot up it will still see my avalaunch.xbe/unleashx.xbe files on C by default that are hard coded into the BIOS if the x2config.ini is not available which if that happens i can simply FTP in and fix it and then XBMC will be good again.

as far as the maximum compatibility... i thought with XB partitioner it cures any data corruption issues by making the cluster size bigger? , or are you saying x2.4981 ignores what XB Partitioner does to the partition with the large cluster sizes when i use hard drives over 250GB?

also large discs i assume you mean over around 250GB? (because i thought i remember reading somewhere that once you exceed 256GB is when cluster sizes need to be adjusted otherwise you will get data corruption after that point)

It doesn't matter which dash/app 'evoxdash.xbe' actually is.. it could be Coinops. The bios will load it first - by name only. If you want UnleashX rename it evoxdash.xbe. I believe HeXen renames dashboards as such when it installs them. (I haven't used it a lot.)

I prefer the XBMC Team shortcut, since you can change your dash by editing a text file, without utilizing any bios features/changes.

Thanks for the info but i already know that much

(i used to use that XBMC shortcut on my Softmods (before recently when i did TSOP) as i swapped the file it loaded with that shortcut to redirect it to where my XBMC install was)

i just prefer to keep official names as it's more professional that way.

but i think ill be fine as i decided to just flash x2.5035 back to the system along with my custom x2config.ini on the E partition. plus if that x2config.ini ever got deleted etc i still should be able to FTP back in since it will load my avalaunch.xbe by default from "C:\avalaunch.xbe" as that's the first thing, based on the way my XBox 1 is setup, that it finds first.

@ Heimdall... well it appears your DVD-R recommendation must be rock solid as even my total crap Thompson's load up from DVD-R which, 3 out of the 4 i got, would never boot up from CD-RW.

which it's nice i know this now as i don't have to worry about running into a Thompson that won't work now

i am surprised i did not know that though as i been into XBox 1 moding scene since Aug 2004 and consider myself fairly knowledgeable overall but obviously i don't know every little detail

i used 8x burn speed since modern burners burn better at faster speeds than they do at slower speeds (assuming your using decent media). i usually get quality burns (according to disc scans with Kprobe) on Verbatim DVD-R even @ 20x with my burners. but i figured 8x is a pretty safe all around choice so i used that as i figured anything lower than 8x is probably unnecessary.

but just playing around with the disc does seem pretty easy to use as the menu's are nice and professional looking etc. but is it really as easy as it appears for flashing TSOP on a v1.2-1.5? (lacking any hardware related stuff of course)

but overall it looks like this disc will be all i need now. so the hell with my CD-RW discs i was using

as the FTP works on it and the menu's look professionally setup and pretty much straight forward.

but a question... that "AYBX" password don't seem to be the password for the 'Format Menu'. like... XBox Admin > System > Format Menu and when i enter the password "AYBX", it says invalid etc. i even tried "Heimdall01" and still says invalid.

4x works, 8x and you're taking a chance. It has nothing to do with modern burners, it's the old DVD drive that will be reading the discs that's the limiting factor.

"Official" names only works if you're prepared to change the BIOS every time you want to change the dash. The generally accepted standard for TSOP/chip Xboxes has been to rename your dash evoxdash.xbe because that's easier than editing and reflashing the BIOS. With X2.5035 and iND-BIOS.5003 it's easier because you just edit the text config file, but it's still far simpler to rename the dash itself, especially from an installation disc.

For XBMC (where the dash is more than just a couple of files) the the Team XBMC shortcut is the method most people use - but again, renamed evoxdash.xbe and evoxdash.cfg.

HeXEn follows this standard. Small dashboards are renamed and moved to C:\evoxdash.xbe, XBMC is in E:\Apps\XBMC\ and uses the shortcut at C:\evoxdash.xbe. i see. that's weird if those low burn speeds actually matter because if it actually matters it would seem burners must burn those differently at slow speeds vs higher speeds as i would imagine a quality burn is a quality burn regardless of burn speeds. so if the low speed burning makes it easier for Thompson drives to read the disc they must have changed the way discs are read or something as there has to be some reason if low speed burning matters for Thompson drives. makes me wonder if brand of disc (maybe different dye's) matters more than burn speeds?

but 8x must be fine if your using a decent burner with good media (i used 'Sony Optiarc 7240s' with Verbatim DVD-R (MCC03RG20) @ 8x burn speed) as like i was saying it don't seem to have issues booting up (seems to boot the first time when i tried it) and i can navigate the menus etc and it copied over some of the files from the disc fine (i believe was somewhere around a 2MB/s read speed) so odds are the disc won't cause any issues.

but i see your point though as it would be less risky to change .xbe file names than re-flash TSOP.

but is it possible with this disc to have it load BIOS files from the hard drive for flashing to TSOP on any XBox (v1.0-1.5) of your own custom made ones, or is it solely only for the ones that are included on the disc?

but just curious... have you personally had any trouble burning at 8x or 12x or even 16x etc for use in a Thompson XBox?

and thanks for that password. although upon looking into it more if i need to format the drive i can use other options on the disc as it appears there is a option there for a initial hard drive setup.
