Any one know how i can fix this? i have tried putting the update on USB and CD etc... and tried off a game but nothing

Hey, Just got a xbox (out of warranty)
Its got the old boot up logo, but i get this nasty failed update warning:

Ahh well i have managed to fix this error now,
If any one else has this, what i did is put MW2 Disc in the drive, held the sync button and turned it on.
Xbox updated after that with no problems.
