I just got an old Xbox with a broken NIC from a friend and I want to rehabilitate it to be an emulation machine. I'd like to upgrade the dash first, but I can't seem to get it to read a flash drive (I soldered myself a cable with a female USB end).
How can I format this flash drive so that the old version of Avalaunch (2006?) will read it? Is there a 'safest' format?

Run MS Dash and plug the USB stick into the Xbox - it should automatically format the drive as FATX. If it doesn't then either the USB stick isn't supported on the Xbox, or your cable is faulty.
Once you get it formatted as FATX, use Xplorer360 beta 6 on your PC to copy files to and from the USB stick.

Perfect, thank you.
Is there a maximum device size? Maximum partition size?

4GB, single partition only.
