Full Version: Odamex Pwad Compatibility List
Scenyx Entertainment Community > Xbox1 Forums > Software Forums > Homebrew & Ported Games
NobodyHere
Hello.

In light of recent posts, I thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread on Odamex's pwad (player made wad) compatibility. Once there are enough pwads listed, maybe someone could even make a compilation pack?

Useful info could include.

- Odamex (Xbox) version
- Pwad name
- Pwad version
- Episodes/Maps changed
- Link to pwad
- Iwad required (DOOM.WAD, DOOM2.WAD, freedoom.wad, etc.)
- Minimum port requirement - Vanilla (doom.exe/doom2.exe), BOOM, PrBoom, ZDoom, etc...
- Any issues encountered.

I'd prefer only listing what does work, and whether it's with/without issues. I suppose marking pwads that should run based on their requirements, but don't, could also be useful.

For all items I'm adding to this list, here's what I'm personally specifying.

The pwad title will be colored for easy scanning of the thread.

Example Title; (Green) = Works, without any detected issues.
Example Title; (Yellow) = Works, with minor issues.
Example Title; (Orange) = Loads, but has major game breaking issues.
Example Title; (Red) = Doesn't load, or crashes immediately.

Vanguard;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible
Changes: 13 new maps starting from Map01
Issues: None encountered
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16463

Personally, I found this set to be very fast paced, with a higher difficulty than the standard Doom 2 maps. The scenery was nice (for Doom2), and varied. There is an (expected) extended load time at the beginning of each level, in comparison to the default levels, due to them being more graphically varied.

Fragport;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Vanilla compatible (ZDoom skies available)
Changes: 32 new maps starting from Map01
Issues: None encountered
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16436

Okay, I guess. The difficulty is higher than the standard Doom 2 maps, with large open levels in most cases. Fast, twitchy, run-n-gun players may do well with this. The graphics are standard Doom fare, with nothing remarkable to mention.

The City of the Damned;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: ZDoom (2.0 or higher)
Changes: 1 'large' new map starting from Map01
Issues: None encountered
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=12577

Difficulty is tailored to Doom veterans.

Try it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
NobodyHere
Phobos Massacre;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom, Ultimate Doom, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: ZDoom (2.4.1 or higher)
Changes: Episode 1 replacement
Issues: None that I noticed
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16100

Old school Dooming, with ZDoom features.

Lunatic;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible
Changes: 5 new maps starting from Map01
Issues: None encountered
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16551

Lunar based Doom action, with nice visuals.

The Hatch;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM(?) compatible
Changes: 1 new map starting from Map01
Issues: None encountered
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16176

One large, very well done, map.
NobodyHere
Chex Quest 3;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Standalone pwad. I renamed it to 'freedoom.wad'.
Port: ZDoom 2.3.1
Changes: Episode 1 replacement
Issues: Thing animations (barrel?) display incorrectly, specific enemies drop ammo when they shouldn't, and the game crashes upon exiting first map.
Link: http://www.chucktropolis.com/gamers.htm

The two official Chex Quest 1 & 2 episodes by Digital Cafe, followed by a third by former employees.
Hyper_Eye
Chex Quest is recognized as an iwad by Odamex. You could name your chex3.wad to chex.wad and it will appear in the iwad list. You are right in that it has issues. If you use the regular chex.wad + chex.deh you will find that Chex Quest works great in Odamex. Obviously that doesn't include the added third episode.

Yeah, I didn't think of running the original, but thanks for the heads up on the direct support for it. I've only been testing pwads with BOOM/ZDoom features, and had figured that almost all vanilla pwads should be a given. Well... except for those really old 'binary' dehacked ones.

Deus Vult;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Limit removing source port
Changes: Split 4 maps, or one large
Issues: Monsters spawning on your location will cause Xbox crash. Other random (memory?) crashes. Save often.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=12597

Great pwad. Memorize the spawning locations, or you will be manually powering the Xbox off then on.

Deus Vult II;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible
Changes: 11 maps
Issues: Blue skeleton key event isn't triggered near end of stage one.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=15238

Takes a minute to load, be patient. The readme says it's BOOM compatible, and Google search shows that it should work in Odamex. Maybe an Xbox only issue?

The Lost Seraphim;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: ZDoom (1.22 or higher)
Changes: 4 maps starting on Map01
Issues: ZDoom script events not triggered, resulting in being stuck after first wave of enemies.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=11446

To be honest, I just randomly tested this. There's a possibility that the ZDoom features in this wad are not advertised to work in Odamex, or it is too old a ZDoom format.

Doom Redemption;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom, Ultimate Doom, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: ZDoom (1.23 or higher)
Changes: Episode 1 replacement
Issues: None encountered, but there may may have been messages that were supposed to be displayed.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=12228

I considered this to have a non-organic flow, but try it for yourself.
NobodyHere
I guess it might be too much to expect wad authors to list exactly what source port's features they implement. No negative meaning is meant to the Odamex authors either, but there is no sure fire way to tell what ZDoom (or to a lesser extent BOOM) pwads are going to work. There is also no ZDoom PK3 format support.

If one has a functional keyboard/mouse combo for their Xbox, they can run PrBoom fullspeed in Xbox Linux through WINE. ZDoom should work through WINE as well, but only with minimal settings. I personally tested them in X-DSL.

BUMP;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Limit removing source port (unplayable in ZDoom)
Changes: 1 map
Issues: Xbox crashes (freeze) after selecting "Choose Skill Level" option.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16071

It was deliberately designed to not work in ZDoom, and I guess Odamex is affected too.

Whispers of Satan;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible (ZDoom par times)
Changes: 30 maps starting on Map01
Issues: ZDoom par times don't work.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=15950

The par times were such a minor issue that this is still marked as perfectly fine.

Chapel of Chaos;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible
Changes: 1 map starting on Map21*
Issues: Events not triggered in yellow skull key areas.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16133

It's almost completable, but no dice. I have no idea why it isn't working, unless it has to do with the mapinfo lump. *This requires a xbmc4xbox shortcut to launch on Map21.

Whitemare;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible
Changes: 19 maps starting on Map01
Issues: Crashes to in-game Odamex menu when loading Map02.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16356

Map01 plays through just fine, and is tough as nails. Completing level one, or warping to level 2 causes a crash to the menu. I didn't test any more of the maps. Some may work, and some may not.

NobodyHere
Generator of Evil;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible
Changes: 1 map starting on Map01
Issues: You can't pickup items. You can walk right through certain walls. Enemies missile attacks do not damage player. Can't hit/flip switches either.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=14975

Not sure what's up with this. It does say to start in -complevel 9 for Prboom though.

Jenesis, Pt. 2;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible (ZDoom mapinfo)
Changes: 20 maps starting on Map01
Issues: ZDoom mapinfo doesn't work, resulting in jumping being permitted.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16442

Remake of earlier unfinished Jenesis Pt. 1, so don't bother with that. Odamex allows jumping, so don't abuse the map. wink.gif

CONGESTION CONTROL 2;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible
Changes: 1 map starting on Map01
Issues: None encountered
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11994

Single map for 1 player, or deathmatch. REALLY fun on anything above HMP, because of Arch-Vile encounters.
NobodyHere
The ArchVile Temple;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible
Changes: 1 map starting on map01
Issues: None found by myself
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=14615

Beluga;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible
Changes: 1 map starting on map01
Issues: Mentioned in readme. Red key just falls short of distance needed in anything other than (g)zdoom.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=14781

Very fun tech based level, with unique architecture. Don't jump anywhere other than the above mentioned location, or you may get stuck.

The Concrete Octagon;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Vanilla (doom2.exe, Chocolate-Doom) compatible
Changes: 1 map starting on map01
Issues: None found by myself
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=9658

Large sprawling open, above and below ground, areas. Lot's of enemies.

Decadence;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Limit removing source port (?)
Changes: 1 map starting on map01
Issues: Areas, doors, and enemies events aren't triggered properly.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=13062

In addition to Odamex incompatibilities, there are graphical errors, areas you can get stuck in (without jumping), and other pwad specific issues.

Just posting to say that this list has been useful to the Odamex development team. Already we have corrected crashes with wads like Bump and are looking into the other issues. Keep up the good work!

Cool.

Right at the moment, I'm having some technical difficulties with my PC. When they're all sorted, I'll continue with these.

Please do, this thread is very helpful, as I've never even heard of these levels.

And would you consider making a .zip of all the ones that are compatible with the XBox version of Odamex, so that we can download it and unZIP it to our XBox Odamex installation and the directory structures will be right?

Such an archive would be useful for us on this forum.

Vae Victus;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Limit removing source port
Changes: 7 maps starting on map01
Issues: Map 3 blue door will not open, even after acquiring key.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=13150

It was playing great up until level 3, where I found the blue door wouldn't open. I didn't bother warping to later maps to test them out.

Vae Victus 2;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Limit removing source port
Changes: 7 maps starting on map01
Issues: Map 2 red door will not open, even after acquiring key.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=14582

It was playing great up until level 2, where I found the red door wouldn't open. I didn't bother warping to later maps to test them out.
NobodyHere
XXXI CyberSky;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Limit removing source port
Changes: 1 map starting on map31
Issues: Doesn't load (Map31)
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=15434

Terrere 1;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible
Changes: 1 map starting on map01
Issues: Works fine
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=10912

Decent map if not slightly small...

Terrere 2;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible (?)
Changes: 1 map starting on map01
Issues: None that I could find
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11363

Good map, but again small. Maybe it should be played on higher difficulty settings?
NobodyHere
The Horror Collection;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible
Changes: 1 map starting on map01
Issues: S.S. officer not displaying as Plasma trooper. Red key physics/event not working properly.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=14994

This one uses an embedded bex file, but it doesn't seem to be out of order. I'm not sure what's up with this one.

Napalm;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Final Doom - TNT
Port: Limit removing source port
Changes: 1 map starting on map01
Issues: Yellow door does not open.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=15025

One of the only, if not the only, TNT pwads I can remember seeing.

No Chance;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible
Changes: 1 map on map01
Issues: Crashes on multiple event/area triggers, which require manual Xbox reboot.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=15937

Like the readme say, 'This is a ridiculously difficult Boom-compatible map'. Too bad it doesn't work the whole way through. Like Deus Vult, I thought this may have been due to the tele-portation ambushes, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the crashes may be sound related.

Green Day;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Ultimate Doom, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Limit removing source port
Changes: 2 maps starting on E4M1
Issues: None found
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16589

This one uses the Ultimate Doom's episode 4, so select that episode to start the levels. If you're on the last 1.9 version of regular Doom, update your iwad to Ultimate Doom to play the fourth episode.

NORDHELL;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Limit removing source port
Changes: 1 map on map01
Issues: None found
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=15175

Supports, and requires, jumping in a couple spots. You shouldn't be able to get stuck from using the feature.
NobodyHere
Belials Bad Brain;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Limit removing source port
Changes: 1 map on map01
Issues: Teleportation ambushes cause system crashes, save often. Orange key area has wall that will not open after hitting switch.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=15216

Teleporting enemies cause insta-death in many doom ports, and vice-versa when your player teleports onto enemies. In Xbox Odamex, it seems to cause the Xbox to crash instead of returning to the menu. I got pretty far into this level, and ending up dropping into an area after running over the orange key. Once I cleared out the Arch Viles guarding the switches, a path opened up. At this point a switch was supposed to drop a wall, but it did not.

The Community Chest Project;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Boom compatible
Changes: 32 maps beginning on map01
Issues: See *, **, and below
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=12021

- Map 01, 02, 16, 17, 18, 19, 32 all work.
- Map 20 does not work.
- Map18 has possible random crash after killing Mastermind**.
- Map20 crashes Odamex when attempting to load.

The Community Chest Project 2;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Boom compatible
Changes: 32 maps beginning on map01
Issues: See *, and below.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=13024

- Map 01, 16, and 32 work.
- Map 02, and 17 do not work.
- Map02 has door that does not open when switch is hit (at very start of level).
- Map17 crashes Odamex when attempting to load.

________________________________________________________

* Because of the nature of these team, or contest, megawads (complete level set replacements), I have randomly jumped around from level to level for testing. Each member does his/her own map with different techniques, and sometimes features, used.

** I noticed that when you kill special enemies like the Spider Mastermind, or Cyberdemon, that crashes are more likely to occur. These enemies have a special function that is called when they die, allowing creative mappers to use them as event triggers. Maybe this causes issues with Odamex?

I did a quick test by using Xbmc shortcuts to warp to the last boss stage of Ultimate Doom, and Doom 2.
- One test of Ultimate Doom showed the game ending properly after defeating the Spider Mastermind.
- Doom 2 crashed back to the Odamex menu the first time I killed the Icon of Sin. With one follow up test, the game ended properly.

I suppose I should actually play through the Freedom iwads to test the boss battles, and that the BOOM levels themselves are completable.
Hyper_Eye
In case someone comes along and sees all the red and orange wads, I want to note that NobodyHere is intentionally trying non-vanilla wads that exercise the advanced mapping features of Odamex. The amount of non-working wads listed does not reflect the total compatibility that can be expected from Odamex when trying typical wads. Vanilla wads, which accounts for many many wads, should work without issue.

Having said that, this list is great and I'm glad you are continuing to update it NobodyHere. If you could, try Batman all the way through. I have played it a number of times and haven't experienced any issues (as long as the deh is properly loaded) but it would be nice to see the results of a thorough test.
NobodyHere
Some of these pwads simply require certain limits being upped/removed, and not all of them actual use BOOM features. But..., I also suppose that the BOOM support needs work. I figured that a lot of these issues I've been finding in these various pwads are actually the same incompatible features, so I'm done testing BOOM wads out for now.

QUOTE(Hyper_Eye @ Oct 3 2011, 05:08 AM) *

Yes, I mentioned that earlier in the thread, but I suppose at this point I could test a few of the bigger tricked-out 'dehacked' vanilla pwads.

Eclipse (2x2 series);

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: Limit removing port
Changes: 2 maps starting on map01
Issues: Wall leading to 'teleportation' generator room doesn't drop.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=15537

Community Chest 3;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Doom2, or Freedoom equivalent
Port: BOOM compatible
Changes: 32 maps starting on map01
Issues: Throne hall chair switch doesn't trigger surrounding doors.
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=15156

Works up until level 5 throne room.

Plutonia 2;

Odamex: 0.5.4
Iwad: Final Doom's 'plutonia.wad', or Freedoom's 'doom2.wad'
Port: Vanilla compatible with dehacked support
Changes: 33 maps starting on map01
Issues: Works great
Link: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=15550

Map33 is only accessible from the command-line 'warp' parameter, or 'IDCLEV' from keyboard.

I do see where you said that but it wasn't in the OP and it was mixed into a larger post so I wanted to just make sure it is clear. I wouldn't want someone to see the lack of green wads and think Odamex is a broken port. Thanks for your continued work.

Brilliant to see this being continued.

Odamex has been one of the greatest ports ever to be seen on the xbox and it's good to see that others in the community are enjoying it.

Loving all of this!

Wasn't Odamex's original goal to be the most vanilla compatible online port?

As such it probably doesn't need to be tested with Vanilla pwads.

I just played so many limit removing pwads that going back to vanilla ones would be a bit dull. Out of my favorite vanilla pwads like Aliens TC, Batman Doom, Requiem, Alien Vendetta, etc., I've played through them 2-3(+) times over the years. To replay them again just for testing sounds a bit tedious,

Although they were quick run-thrus, so I couldn't tell you if every secret area, secret level, or kill worked, I've played through these pwads on Xbox Odamex a few months back.

- Batman Doom (Unmodified. I originally ran into problems with some custom midi files, and deh changes.)
- WolfenDoom (Original Missions, and SoD)
- Hacx (v1.2)

At this point, I'd rather wait for a possible Odamex 5.4 release to test any further pwads, or to retest unsupported ones.
