I'll be on my 3rd ps3 in 8 months (Damm ylod!) any way my gf is getting me a 160gb slim for xmas it's a PAL version.
My questions are;
1> If it is on FW 3.55 what are the chances of bricking it whilst installing cfw?
2> Is 3.55 currently the highest hackable firmware?

To #1) As long as you stick with a good CFW then the risk of bricking is about the same as installing an Official firmware.

2) yes and no. You can downgrade any ps3 to 3.55 but its more for advanced users.

what cfw do you suggest? Do you think there is a high chance this ps3 will have 3.55 stock.
BTW is $398 AUD cheap for a 160gb slim?

If my conversion on that is right that equals $413 USA so that is way to much. I would ship you my ps3 that already has a CFW on it and a 500GB HDD installed. The chance of you buying a new ps3 with 3.55 or lower on it is very slim. I would search around for a used slim becuase you will have a better chance of one that will work.

Sorry there was a mistake in my post I paid $298 AUD!!! Which would make it $314 USD.

I got off my GF for xmas, its a CECH-36002 (A) 160gb, they were on sale for $350, but I talked them down to $298 AUD
