New Project in progress, wanting to plan this out properly before i get ahead on myself. Thats definatly my biggest problem with modding anything, if im not happy with it, i lose interest and the project slowly fades away.

Suggestions on a name would be appreciated, havent came up with anything just yet.

This project is based on the Lian Li PC - Q08B and a Slim Xbox 360 with an X360 Key.

The Xbox will be placed inside the Lian Li case, some extra storage will be placed inisde the case, a 1 TB hard drive, to keep leagal back ups of my games, i do not encourage piracy, i have a large collection on games and like to keep my investment of games safe. I own all the games i store back ups of.

The games will be played through the X360 Key, its a relatively new product. Thanks to Mod Chips Direct, have a look at there site Mod Chips Direct. Sponser of this project.

The case is pretty much exactly the same height as the original Xbox Slim case. Just wider, I dont want to go bigger, want to be able to keep it on the tv cabinet. IT is a fair bit wider then the Xbox Slim but for everything it can do im not to worried about the width of the case.

Finally got the case in, ordered it from the local PC shop and came in pretty quickly, went with the Lian Li PC - Q08B case, small enough, but plenty of room to ventilate the case properly and keep it cool.

Got it home and opened it straight away, alot of the internal stuff can come out, took the sides off the case and this is what was left.

IPB Image

15 Minutes later had it stripped down, pretty easy to take apart, im not the best with computers, never done PC case mods, but they seem easy enough to work with.

IPB Image

Disc Drive in place, will have this painted black to match the case, dont want it standing out to much

IPB Image

Xbox Slim stripped down, ill mount it just like a PC motherboard, will take off the metal case, will look alot better mounted like a normal PC.

IPB Image

This is the way im thinking of mounting the motherboard.

Nice case. I have a XB-01 case for my water-cooled falcon and I love the quality, tho I find the metal case interferes with the controller connection from time to time and really cuts down on the controller range (10' max). Are you going to use the OE hdd caddy and receptacle? 'cuz it would be sweet to be able to re-and-re the hdd without cracking the case.
ozzylow
Looking to mount the back something like this, not sure what exactly what i will do. Ill get something designed and get it cut out ( laser cut ) maybe. Still working on ideas, i want it to look neat and not a hacked job.

Nice. Looking foward to seeing the finished product. pop.gif

Memory Card went missing, still trying to find it, just an update on what else i have been doing and ordering.

Just placed an order with MDPC ( Million Dollar PC ) for some White Cable Sleeve and matching White Heatshrink, this is the best stuff out there, definatly worth the money and shipping time.

IPB Image

Just finding the right place to order my fans from, looking for black frame with white fan blades, going to keep with a black and white theme inside the case.

IPB Image

I was looking to maybe watercool the Xbox 360, but still not to sure just yet, deciding if i am wanting to spend the money on it, i would be using the XSPC Waterblock for the Slim Xbox. Just working out final prices, its something i could always add into the project later on.

Got my delivery from Million Dollar PC

White Cable Sleeving and White HeatShrink

Mounting the Xbox 360 Motherboard in the orignal tray, trimmed it down to fit better.

IPB Image

IPB Image

Space wise, im going to have to solder the Wireless Adapter to be able to fit it in better, the whole case wont work unless this is out of the way. 6 Wires and a Ground.

I like how it looks so far, what did you use to trim the 360 chassis down? Looks really clean. Only thing I don't like is the x360key, are you even able to store the games on a sata hdd? I thought it was only usb compatible... either way though, I really think you should just get the board glitched, you'll be able to achieve the same thing + more.

Looks like you're gonna have a ton of extra space on the other side too, can I sway you to put an Xbox1 in there for XBMC biggrin.gif
ozzylow
I used an Grinder to cut down the Motherboard Tray, spent my time with it so i had a perfect finish. Sits right on the edges of the Xbox 360. Not sure about the XKey, dont want to end up with a banned Xbox.

With the extra space, thats where the Water Cooling Parts will go hopefully.

Worked on the Motherboard Tray today, light sand and coated it with primer and then painted with some textured Black Paint.

IPB Image

Took the Disc Drive apart and the Holder and prepped for paint and went with a Matte Black Finish

IPB Image

Sleeved the top fan also, sticking to a Black and White theme through the case, but the Green Motherboard might look a bit out of place, any suggestions ?

Need a name for this project / case also feel free to give me some suggestions.

Great job on the case swap! I can't wait to see it watercooled. With the 1TB drive inside, its going to be quite the media center. I'll be keeping up with great anticipation of its completion. smile.gif

Names- MaxMedia360 / K3yMaker / Pandora's Xbox. Names that extol it's ability to eat entire game libraries are what comes to mind. A 1TB drive could hold over 130 games give or take.

I checked out that MDPC website and think the cable sleeve is amazing. How would you rate the quality? Im ready to order a bunch. I really like your project. Are you going to be modding the back of the case so that all the exterior ports are still showing? I noticed that whichever way you mount it (mobo on top of case or mobo on bottom) that some ports are blocked by the case itself?

Best you can buy, quality is real good. All the PC Modders use this. Yes i will be modding the back, ill get a new panel made up and laser cut out the proper designs for the HDMI, Ethernet, USB and all that.

Looking to get a replacement side for the case, then cut that, i want to have some finish and color.

Introducing my first sponser for this case. Helping out towards the case with a 545LC Performance Liquid CPU Cooler.

I have been a bit slow on updates recently, just waiting on parts to come through so i can finish and design other parts.

Fractal Design

Thanks to Fractal Design for the sponser, helping me out with some fans, 120mm and 140mm fans.

IPB Image

IPB Image

Fans will look nice in the case, definatly better then the stock fans that came with the Lian Li.

How do you plan on extending the power/sata cables for the dvd drive?

Ill just extend all the power cable to the disc drive and i will just buy a new sata cable, black or white to go with the theme

Thanks, im starting to think its going to look better the more time i spend on it.

PC and Xbox Slim is in the planning stages now. As soon as this project is done, i will start. I have to sell off some of my other projects first.

Starting to get alot more work done now, have ordered parts needed and hoping to get heaps done in the Christmas break.

Most likely get the 20" set, which i purchased to mount my dvd on the outside of my case, and i can say that 20" is definitely long enough to go anywhere in that case he wants. To top it off, i think i only paid like 8$ shipped for the set too, i forget exactly.

EDIT:

BTW, I think this is absolutely crazy sick, lmao. I want a slim so bad to rgh and to do some crazy shit like this. Mad props to u man i cant wait to see the finish

EBay actually. I forget exactly what I searched for

I"m curious who you're going through to get it laser cut ? Will it be cut metal or plexi?

Looks great so far. Loving these pics pop.gif

Plenty of local places around that can do the work. I am hoping they can do both need both cut.for the project
ozzylow
Showing how the back part of the case will be, i have drawn up to scale the design for the rear ports of the Xbox. I will get this made up laser cut or something similar.

Thanks again to Asetek, i recieved my Liquid Cooling today. Got it open and started working out ideas how to make it all work together. Using the Intel Retention Ring i will have to drill my own holes to make this work, i will have to plan this out properly, still working things out.

Amazing project though !!!!

New motherboard tray, wasnt to happy with the old one and this will make the Asetek Liquid Cooling easier for me to mount, also can run my 12V and 5V wires underneath the board, its worth spending the extra time it will make all the difference.

Aluminium sheet, cut at 8.5" x 8.5" i will be using PC Motherboard stand off. Drill and tap to fit, and will all be resprayed matte black.

Thermal paste removed

Got the stand offs mounted in the new motherboard tray, i wanted to lift this so i have room to fit the X Clamp back underneath to help with mounting the Asetek Liquid Cooling.

Sorry if i post to many pictures, i like to take photos of everything so if someone else trys something similar they have the photos to help out.

Looks great so far, keep taking pictures, it's hard to take too many pictures haha.

Starting to work on the mounting of the block. Just roughly dry fitting and seeing how i can make this all work.

On Christmas day at 12.06 i finally got the first test done, its working. Ran it for a while and all seems good so far, i have never done anything like this, no water cooling before so it was pretty exciting to get it all going tonight / this morning.

Pump was a little noisy at first but im guessing it was just getting rid of the air and 30 seconds later it was back to quiet, alot better then the older Xbox 360, i would rather listen to the small noise of the pump then original fans.

The Fractal design fans, are quiet also, i havent had much experience with PC fans, but i dont even notice these ones on, running full speed. Once its all inside the case im sure i will hear even less. Excellent Christmas present to myself getting it done and running.

Cant wait to be playing Skyrim on this Xbox.

they make longer versions of the stock cables. they're both pretty common cables you can buy at any computer shop. or maybe i misunderstood the question

and btw, this entire project reallu impresses me, dude. keep it up
xbox-enthusiast786
I can see this being a very nice and clean mod!

Keep up the good work!

P.S, have you thought about using some sort of heat transfer pad from the motherboad to the back-plate? Might act as a heat sink. I dont know, just a suggestion.
NLT89
How did you make holes to mount the mobo - just use it against the mobo tray you had or made a template first?

Just placed the motherboard over the sheet of aluminum and carefully marked the holes. Take your time marking.
ozzylow
Tested the Xbox for around 6 hours. Im addicted to Skyrim now.

Temps seemed pretty low, not alot of heat coming from the Xbox, when it is all installed inside the case with extra fans i should be able to lower the overall heat.

IPB Image

Painted the Motherboard tray. Started with sanding lighly with 400 Grit and put down a coat of etch primer, helps the paint bond better with aluminium then a coat of surface primer to level out any imperfections. Finished off with a coat of matte black.

no updates?

Thanks to Modiify for supplying one of the newest controllers with there latest chip. The ARBITER 3. The quality is amazing, the chip is even better. Drop shots, Jump Shots and Rapid Fire.

Easy to follow on how to get everything working. I proper instruction manual on how it all works, how to program what mode you want. No other rapid fire controller/chip comes close to this.

Custom made with the White features make this fit with the case perfectly.

The top of the case has a 120mm fan, the radiator is 92mm. I needed to use an adapter, not sure how much this will affect the airflow i will add another fan if needed. Possibly a 92mm Fractal Design fan to go with the others.

Awesome mod smile.gif But.... And I hope you don't mind me saying, that asetek setup just isn't doing it justice, visually.

Might be relatively easy to install, and get the job done, (and it was free of course) but it isn't pretty.

You've got shit loads of space for a beautiful reservoir and pipes, lit with white LED's

I wouldn't want to put a window on that, personally, because really, there's nothing to see.

No offence man, just my thoughts.

Not sure on what window design to go with.

This panel can be turned either way.

Yea i think i will be sticking to the mesh on the right and window on the left.

Currently putting in the LED's now, will have more progress pictures today.

Never tried water cooling, maybe my next build i will go that way. I actually like the look of the Asetek Cooler, and i want to show it off.

I will be going with a window on the left and the mesh on the right but with a radius on the corners. There will be more to see, still working on ideas. Possibly a motherboard cover ( black tinted perspex ) to make the green less obvious.

IPB Image

started with the LED's today, got them wired up and into position. The one of the motherboard tray will light up motherboard slightly. Not to bright. Just wired up to a 12V battery to see how it looks.

IPB Image

IPB Image

ozzylow
Now you can see how the LED's underneath the motherboard show, not to bright.

Progress is picking up, still alot to do but slowly getting there. i dont want to rush it and not be happy with the end result.

I must say that you are very inspiring. I plan to do a similar themed project except with a jasper board. Cant use this case, unless you think from seeing it in person that a fat mobo would fit with custom standoffs.

Thank you for your contributions to this community biggrin.gif
ozzylow
I have progress but not all of it can be seen, just been organising everything so it all fits back together, some wire management to keep it all looking neat.

Disc Drive had to be raised up. It will be held in place with 3M Velco, its a lot stronger then you may think

Yes Lian Li made a case for the original Xbox 360.

I thought i would try my own Lian Li case for an Xbox

More progress i have put a bit of time in to the case today gettting some bits and pieces finished.

I re painted a few things today. There is to many different blacks in the case, i wanted to keep it all a Matte Black Finish

New Soldering Iron

IPB Image

USB 3.0 came with the case so i had to re wire the cable becasue it had a motherboard header for a pc on the other end. I cut that end off and made a USB plug to go into the front Xbox 360 USB ports.

IPB Image

Will get some black heatshrink, the white does not look to good.
