hi,

so i'm up for trying to make a vibration (or rumble, don't know which word is more appropriate) sensitive controller mod. now i don't think i have to explain how the thing works or antyhing it's really not new or ground breaking.

it is all just in the planning phase, hence i need your advice.

first of all i'm planning to wire 3 leds (3mm) each from the bottom of both motor connectors (gonna have to test it aesthetically maby i'll end up with 2x2) now i would like to know whether this is going to cause any problems with the board and the stability/quality of operation of the controller and the other thing is will it have anyhow noticable reduction on usage times between recharges. the leds wouldn't be lit up all the time, only on vibartion (as probably most of you understood already)

if there is anything strange please feel free to ask.

I've done this before but i only used 2 3mm leds. the controller still worked like normal and i didn't notice the batteries dying any faster.

where are you gonna put the leds?

I actually managed to squeeze both leds into the guide button and it looked really nice.

right now i'm planning to cut out tribals on the handles of controller to match my xbox mod. i would try to cover them up with plexiglass, which i would try to "mold" with hot air gun, so i'm considering to put one led there to light up the design and the other two would be in cut out holes around analog caps, to make the analog light up. i just don't know if the analogs are going to look good with the lights, so taht's why the final number of leds is uknown, if it looks lame then i will only wire two or one led from each spot and leave them in the handles.

this is basicly what i'm aiming at, but the guy uses transparent caps. dunno how it will look on standart ones. and my analogs would light up only on vibration:

Seems to have lost a fair few posters since I was last here! With the standard rumble mod I think you're limited to 2V LEDs, like yellow, orange or red. Most people opt for red. The more LEDs you use the faster your battery will be drained, it probably won't be a massive effect but it stands to reason as you're using more energy to make light there'll be less energy to run the controller!

yeh it did, probably because people ar getting slims and they don't bother modding them.

anyway i took apart the controller and i have to admit i had falsehopes considering the space i can work on. the real "usable space" is 2 parts, something around 2x3 CM each. the problem is the "holding bay" for rumble motors. i dont' think cutting through them or anyhow interfering with them would bring good results.

now other thing. it's real bad news for me that green colour can't be used. i wanted this to match my xbox mod ( http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/47/img7166e.jpg http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/8316/img7167fd.jpg )

btw, i like your shop. great to do bussines with smile.gif

I used UV leds and they lit up bright. I got the power from a point directly connected to the battery and i connected the negative to one of the rumble motors and it worked fine.

Looks like that's a good work around!

Glad you like the shop Kiler01, it's our third attempt in the last 8 years, and hopefully we've got this one right. It still needs some speed optimization but it's getting there. Could also do with making the XBOX section a bit more accessible and advertised, we've just got a tonne of new stock, like thumbsticks, D-Pads etc etc and they're a bit hidden away at the moment.

Love the case by the way, is that cut by hand?! It's amazing.

The space you have on the tips of the controller is a bit tight but I'm sure it will look amazing when it is done.

sorry for not responding. i kinda lost hope because no other color can replace green :/ the mod is all done by hand without using any machinery what so ever (only used a dremel to drill holes in each little part)

another thing was to maby use UV leds and "glowing" (I dunno how to spell florescenting or something.......) paint BUT guess what..... uv leds = 3v. so that's another one out of the list.

now the only way i can see this work and look similar to the case mod is to just paint the whole thing black/green with tribals on it and make a few rumble active leds around the analog caps. maby in something like amber colour.

i noticed that phenoptix has GREEN RoL mods on the site. so maby i could creat something from that? maby wire them in series or parallel with resistor (yes i do know how big the smd's are. i have a few)

i didn't completely get the above post about UVs. how exactly did he acomplish it? and weren't the lights a bit dim? maby that would work with green color

Been out of the scene for awhile. I did rumble motors lights before, but found that the power from the rumble connections maxes out at 2V. I found some really nice 3mm reds that I used often.

I actually did something very similar to this with a couple of my controllers(have videos of them up on youtube) 1 of them i used just 2 leds in the lower section of the guide button that upon rumble would appear as if the guide button was catching on fire shooting upward. the other i used 4 leds 2 blue and 2 jade green - put the 2 blues in the bottom of the guide button and the 2 greens at the top to create a blue/green flame appearance(added a resistor to the green side so that it would keep the greens fairly dim). Wouldnt mind seeing some photos of your finished product if you decided to go on ahead and do this!

Just as a thought, if the voltage from the rumble motor is low, could you not just use a transistor and use a regular supply from elsewhere ie direct from the battery pack?
