My friend gave me an xbox that wont boot retail games and has the xdk launcher. It has a sticker on the bottom of it saying to return it to the microsoft e3 booth or face a 10k fine. It is unopened and came with a copy of mortal kombat something on a white dvd r.

I'd like to know since this system does not appear to boot retail games if it can be softmodded or if it might be considered a collectors item since it was from E3.

Only the retail kernels can be softmodded, but quite honestly, I would not modify that console in any way if it were me. It may be worth something later on, if it isn't already.
