I have tried my 1 tb western digital caviar hard drive on three different xbox's that are three different versions. I have used three different adapters, and tried all different installers. I have put fresh new c and e files on, and done the hotswap method prob 20 or 30 times. I have went through about 30 cd-rs with xboxhdm and actually the drive locks and unlocks perfectly with ease every time. Ive been at this for a week sold now, and final conclusion is the majority of xbox's wont work with sata drives. There's just something about he sata's that the startup process isnt liking. I get error 13 every time. People out there may have gotten lucky with a few, but if you have gotten a 1 tb or bigger to work, PLEASE, post all that you are using and doing. Exception, i have tried all possibilities with softmods, havent tried hardmod yet, not sure if that would make a difference. I just installed a 750 gig ide in one of the xbox's, and put a 500 in the other using hdm and took less than ten minutes for both.

I've got a 2tb running with a softmod fwiw (see the above thread for details on what worked for me) the key is the adapter. Theres a link to an ebay seller that provided me with a working solution last year (YMMV) (thanks again to run088 )

Hey thanks for the update, i'll check out that adapter. I think the hard drive will be ok since it locks and unlocks with ease.

by flashing my TSOP (easier than it sounds) i got my 2 TB SATA running. You can read thru the thread to see all the methods i tried and what ended up working for me. Stick with it, you'll get thru it. As was mentioned, it's either the adapter, or your method of installing that is the hold up.

P.S. HeXEn is not your answer here. Mine would hang when it came to formatting the X drive too. Left it on for 3 days and still formatting... flash your TSOP, install your dash files, and then use AID Deluxe (grab it here: http://www.aideluxe.com/index.php?title=Au...staller_Deluxe) using it's one click install for upgrading larger HDD's, then be sure to use xbpartitioner 1.0 to partition your drives, then again with xbpartioner 1.1 to correctly format everything, especially the F drive. if you don't do it with both, you could and most likely will lose any data you xferred to your F drive after booting the box up. It's been a while since i've had to think about the mod, but if you need any help, don't hesitate to ask.

some newer drives have too long of a spin up time to work with softmods. test if this is the case by plugging in your hdd with another power source (another xbox or a comp. any molex plug should work). power up the hdd for a few seconds then turn on the xbox that the the hdd's ide cable is plugged into (via sata adapter). if this works then do as alexis says and TSOP your xbox (if its not 1.6. if so then get a mod chip or different drive). the loading time of your new BIOS will wait long enough for the drive to wind up.

if that doesnt work its most likely your adapter. they are very particular. also try different jumper settings on your adapter.

takes a while to get to the US (3 weeks) from china, but is really cheap. by a few at a time for later of incase one dont work. they are cheaply made but work! i have used these in several xbox's
