Was provided with a Falcon 360 motherboard to work on. Had a 3 RROD with a secondary code of 0002.
Looked over the Caps. All looked really good. One was starting to crown. Very, very slight Not serious yet.
This particular board has 16 topside, N- channel Mosfets by Fairchild. So I began lifting them one by one. Tested each one with diode function and the ability to switch on and off. The part numbers to these were either a FDD 8782 or FDD 8796
Mosfets were raised using an underside heater and a special hot air tool
None of them tested bad. Checked resistance on some other SMD's. Gave the board a decent alcohol cleaning. Re-installed the Mosfets.
I was concerned I might have to reball the CPU or Southbridge on this particular error code.
The 0002 cleared. Console is back to normal running
So I am just providing this info to possibly help others. I have to say this repair came too easy in a way. Was really expecting to find a dead Mosfet or two. But positive results are always good.
