Ok, lets start with a intro, Im dyingdemon, i softmodded my first xbox only 2 weeks ago via hotswapping, xboxhdm and ndure. It worked perfectly, been using it fine, but decided its time to upgrade
Fastfoward to now. Pulled my old 200gb wd out of my old computer, and decided to make it my new hdd. Promblems
I have my eeprom.bin file. I decided to use my xboxhdm to set up a new hdd it went flaweless with my c and e, and even my F partions, i thought i was in the clear. NOPE i was wrong. event thought i have my eeprom.bin file in the eeprom folder, it says it doesnt exist (got eeprom with config magic) so i though i would just enter pass by hand. I tried that but then it ends up saying drive is frozen, cant do it. my Bios doesnt have the function of turnning off auto detect so i cant follow those instructions. I have even tried redoing the entire process on another computer, but end up with same results.

the hdd is a wd2000bb WD Caviar Enhanced IDE HD, according to this site it is lockable. Is there any way i can just boot up dos and lock it, or something that. i know someone is gonna say "USE THE USB DRIVE METHOD" ill beat you too it and say no usb drive, stick or anything else outside of a keyboard and mosue.

i know my hdd pass, unique keys, everything from the configmagic backup
Heimdall
eeprom.bin has to be lower case for xboxhdm.
dyingdemon
your kidding me right? please tell me your joking and that i havent wasted all this time over a caps thing... >.>
Heimdall
Not kidding. xboxhdm is a small linux boot disc, and (unlike Windows) linux is case sensitive when it comes to file names......
dyingdemon
ok, its working now, thanks tongue.gif just kinda wth moment, glad i used a dvdrw to make my disk so no wasted disks
dyingdemon
ok double post time, when i told it to lockhd -a this time it skips "cannont find eeprom.bin" which means it found it but now it says hdd is frozen, cant do anything, try disabling auto something or another (sorry tired so i aint getting it all) but basically i need to stop it from "auto finding" my hdd on on my bios but my bios doesnt have that feature. any ideas how to fix this?
Heimdall
Do a site search for "xboxhdm frozen BIOS" (without the quotes) and you get lots of links like this one:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=3304351

That contains 3 or 4 possible solutions.

Alternatively you can build the new disk on your Xbox using HeXEn (Google Heimdall's Xbox Engineering Disc). Burn it to DVD-R at 4x or slower (N.B. DVD-RW WON'T work, so don't try it), cold boot with it, and follow the instructions. You need to power the second drive from an external source while doing the upgrade - your PC or an external IDE disk enclosure are ideal for this, but a molex Y splitter won't work.
dyingdemon
ok i got it to go to lock, showed a menue with 5 things on it, the first 2 said yes, the next 3 said no
i tried putting the hdd in my xbox, it boots to the M$ dash and i can see my saved games, emulator saves, etc in there, but it wont read my halo 2 backup, or my AID (was gonna try and use that to get into my xdash since i kept booting m$ dash) any ideas there? maybe the dash files didnt get copied right and if thats so, can i unlock the drive using unlockhd -a then use xbrowser to copy the files one by one into the partitions (and if so) how o.o, trying to do it this way untill all options are expended, once im out of options, then ill try your method. (and using floppy is out for me cause i aint got a floppy disk @_@, got the 3.5 drve but no diskettes)

edit: out of pure curiosity, what would happen if i take my 8gb stock hdd and clone it to my 200gb new hdd? and if thats possible, i am able to make a "F:" drive after the cloning is done right (and if this is a more viable option for me, should i unlock my stock drive before do this?)
Heimdall
The reason it doesn't work is because your new disk isn't softmodded. You've copied the unmodded shadow C instead of the modded real C. Read the link in my signature about building a new softmodded disk with eeprom. You'll need to unlock the new disk first.
dyingdemon
so basically, remake my disk with ndure (which i used to hotswap mod my stock hdd) then unlock it with xboxhd, restore the c with options 1 then 2, then go into ndure, install only ndure, then lock it again, THEN!!! put it in my xbox and good to go @_@

lol did i mention you have to be part god or something, cause there is no way in hell a normal human could remember all of this @_@
Heimdall
Yes, that's the process.

There's a final bit you should also do, just for completeness. Once your Xbox is working use XBPartitioner 1.1 to reformat the F partition so that it writes an on-disk partition table. It makes things a little easier if you ever decide to flash the TSOP, or move the disk to another Xbox. The easiest way to make sure it works properly is to run XBPartitioner 1.1 and change the setup to 50:50 F:G, reboot, then run XBPartitioner 1.1 again and revert to all F.

If I were part god I'd be wealthy enough to not have to work, married to a funny, charming, intelligent and educated supermodel who could cook, and living near the beach on my private island somewhere sunny. smile.gif

1. i just realised... its my compaq motherboard that keeps freezing my hdd
2. why in the heck do i have to remove my jumper from cableselect to master only just for xboxhdm to recognize it as hda not hdb
3. go the hdd in the xbox now, and getting xbp now
4. i said part god, not half god tongue.gif as part god (maybe 1/6) you have a unusual amount of knowledge and abilities in areas most normal humans wouldn't even think of, however you lack the gifts of money women and luxuriance.

heck, im a registered computer tech, certified network tech, own 3 websites, 2 adult websites, can reverse engineer anyweb site im given, and this is still all alien to me >.<

*slams head on desk* put xbp on hdd, boot it through apps on xdash, goes through boot screen, then xdash spalsh showes up and restarts xdash. this 200gig hdd almost isnt worth it xD
Heimdall
Does the Xbox boot properly to UnleashX? If it does then grab HeXEn and use that to reinstall the softmod (so you can be sure it's all good), then select HeXEn option 2.4.3a or 2.4.3b to rebuild and partition the disk.

I'd happily trade everything I know about Xboxes (most of which I learned from reading other people's posts here) for the money, the supermodel or the island. wink.gif
dyingdemon
would this have anything to do with the fact that when it askes if i wanted to use xboxdash.xbe in /xboxhdm/ndure/ when i was restoring the c partition (choice 2 in xboxhd) i hit yes

and i know exactly what you mean, hell id give it all up for enough money to get me out of debt and a decently intelligent, moderately attractive, and great personality women @_@ (being 22 virgin sucks)
dyingdemon
Ok i fixed it, turns out the version i got from xbins wasnt working so i got it from XS Filter - Links to Xbox Warez and Torrents ** and it works, doing f drive now tongue.gif, thanks for all your help man. now i can finally get all this working again. though after modding this xbox... i really wish i had a x360. i dont have a ps3 x360 wii or any of that xD missing out on halo 3 wars odst reach and other games i cant think of right now @_@, o well off to bed peace
