Its been a long time since I've been in the scene and want to check up on an old issue I have. I have a working console and a working drive but they did not come from the same system. Is it possible now to extract the key from the motherboard without a working drive? I don't care to have a custom firmware or anything, just a working console as the end result.

you can use glitch hack to extract dvd key. except zephyr boards

As was said, the Reset Glitch hack is a possibility (depending on the console revision; all fat HDMI consoles are compatible, while Xenons are not). The SMC/JTAG hack is also a possibility, depending on the dashboard version. Check this thread for details.

You can do all boards, including zephyr, just not xenon. All phat HDMI xbox 360 can be done, there area few special cases in which some can't be done because of the CB, but other then that just the Xenon, first 360s with no hdmi can't be done, although Opus phat 360 can be done, even though they don't have HDMI, these are refurbs or replacements sent out by MS a while ago when they would fix an older 360, they wouldn't send you one back with HDMI if you had a xenon, they sent back non-HDMI opus.

unfortunately it is an older 360 without HDMI and I don't think it has been refurbished before.
