I bought a Liteon 0800 v3 drive to rip my xbox games to create backups. I have no access to a motherboard with a SATA port so I have tried the following two options with the same failing results;
1. Used a SATA to USB adapter to connect the Liteon to my laptop running Windows 7. The drive is powered by molex cable to 12v adapter/plug.
2. Used a SATA to IDE adapter to connect the drive to the motherboard of an old desktop running XP. Powered from the motherboard with molex connector.

In both cases, the computer recongizes the drive appropriately, loads the driver and assigns a drive letter. However, nothing else can be done, a disc can be put in yet the drive does not spin or read the disc. When I take the disc out and close the drive it will spin rapidly then stop.

I have opened XBC and it likewise, recognizes the drive yet gives me no option to start or read the disc. When a disc is inserted I get the following message;
"AP25 loading dae.bin file
Getting media info [K]
Media Type: Not Present"

I know that there is typically 4 lines related to loading the AP25 info and am not sure if getting only one line is a problem with the bin or because of the following media not being present. I know I have downloaded, renamed and placed the bin in the right folder, so I am sure all these problems are drive related.

I contacted Modsupplier, the ones who sold me the drive and they state that the drive should be connected to a SATA port on a motherboard and that problems are associated with the USB adapters. They also stated some people have gotten the adapters to work but never told me how they did it. I really don't want to buy another motherboard or computer for just a SATA connection.

I have searched online for hours and yeilded no results, please help.

Describe more in depth how you are powering the drive. The drive is powered by molex cable to 12v adapter/plug? Xbox 360 dvd drives use a propriatery power port and cable, and need inputs of 12v, 5v, and 3.3v. Unless this is a custom-modded drive with power-conversion circuitry built-in and a standard sata power plug installed, what you are talking about won't work.

Just feeding the drive 12v isn't going to work.

If it is the small, rectancular power port with 2 rows of pins, you will need something like a CK3 to power it. If it has been modded to accept sata-style power, it might be bad. If it is being enumerated with a drive letter, then the sata adaptor is fine.
