Today i have started designing and working on a new Xbox 360 project. The project will be featured around a 7" inch screen, i have not decided how i want this built into the side of the case.

Not to sure on everything just yet, ill pick a theme and then can build around that, maybe an upcoming game / movie. Feel free to give me your ideas and feedback. Give me some ideas.

Put the controller next to it so you can get an idea of how big the screen is.

Wanted to slim the screen down further so i can mount flush on the case. This is the only way your going to learn, take things apart and try and see how things work and see what you can change.

6 screws and then used a screwdriver to leaver it open

IPB Image

Slimmed Down from 26mm to 17mm. ( Inches 1.02 to 0.669 )

Its more then it sounds, could make the difference between fitting or sticking out and not looking right. I want this to be an easy mod and be able to do easily and quickly.

All-in-one mods are always cool, can't wait to see it when you're done.

The ammo case mod is awesome too.

More progress today, got a fair bit done today. Unfortunately the screen colors have changed, not showing the correct color. Have ordered a new one as a replacement, its fine though because i can now use it as a testing screen getting everything fit and ready.

Picked up a 250GB Xbox Slim for the project, got it at a great price with Kinect and a few games. Once i got it home, i think it took me around 5 minutes to get it apart and started planning my case design.

The idea. Mount the 7 Inch screen on the side of the case, i want to keep this looking original, almost like Microsoft came out with this. Most likely to re paint the case in a gloss black back to original.

Filled in 3 rows of the fan grill, i did not want the screen overlapping over the grill, it wont look original

IPB Image

Light coat of filler, you would rather do a light coat of filler then place a huge heap and spend the time sanding it back

IPB Image

Got the Dremel out to cut out the rough shape of the screen frame

IPB Image

IPB Image

Filling in around the frame

IPB Image

Starting to sand some areas. That is all the work for today, not much spare time today, got about an hours worth, but got a great start on it all.

Bondo

Got the screen from eBay, Reverse Camera Screen

Second coat of filler, probably will need one more to fill in a few more things, around the edge of the frame, i did not like the line going around the screen so it will be filled

Primer on the other side and faceplate

ozzylow
More progress today, really getting a lot done in the last 2 days

Gloss black seems a waste painting it the exact same color, but i want this to look like a stock Xbox 360 Slim like Microsoft had made it, ill make another and paint it / base it on a theme.

IPB Image

Wetsanding the side with the screen

IPB Image

IPB Image

Primer

IPB Image

Guide coat, only do this when i have some extra work with sanding, other sides did not need this

Waiting on a new screen from Hong Kong. First the colors started showing incorrect then i tried to fit it in and forced a little to hard and cracked the screen. Great practice thou.

Here you go for the Lazy Bums: Screen Link At $45 with free international shipping, this isn't bad.

Awesome work man! It’s amazing what some people can do with bondo. How do you apply that stuff to give you such nice curves?

I understand there is plenty of sanding involved, but still you must start of with something relatively good. It’s not like clay is it? just mould it with your hand? lol... I am curious.
ozzylow
Spend your time with filler ( bondo ) less is more and you don't want to be sanding big heaps of it. I actually applied it around the screen with my finger to get that curve.

Got the new screen in today, started work on making sure everything was all working again

IPB Image

Its just mounted inside the case with no Xbox inside it for now.

IPB Image

Battlefield 3 testing time, its small but still playable.

Lack of updates for a few reasons, baby and extra hours at work have left me with less spare time.

I originally wanted internal speakers but its just not going to work with the limited space I have inside, maybe next time I attempt this mod I will try another way. I am thou still having the sound as an option, there will be a 3.5mm audio jack to connect some external speakers like the ones you could connect to an iPod / phone.

Really like this mod, very clean. I had the same issue when I put a screen on a halo edition Xbox. I ended up installing a audio jack for external speakers. I also had to install a switch on the case do I could use the hdmi. Do you have the same setup or can you still run the system in HD, if so how did you wire it up. Also looking forward to an update on the borderlands case, I hope you are still working on it.
satanicshrew
Super clean kid! The OEM paint look was an awesome choice. Makes it look like you bought it from Microsoft. What ever happened to the Borderlands case?
ozzylow
95% finished now, just finishing up the wires and ready to close it up. Connected the 3.5mm plug and can now listen through headphones and can even connect speakers. Headphones are coming out in great quality the sound is amazing.

Super clean mod. Looks stock! Brilliant. well done.
ozzylow
Installed the switch to tell the Xbox that it is using the Component Video Cables.

Headphone jack next to it, still cant believe how nice the sound that is coming from this.

IPB Image

Some last minute testing before closing it up

IPB Image

Dusty in the shed, i will be repainting the case as i am not 100% happy with it.

IPB Image

All together and working perfect... sort of

It is all back together but I am not happy yet. Will take it all apart and re spray the case, and re organise all the cables a bit better. I hate selling a project if I am not happy with the finished product.

IPB Image
Weirdjerz3y
Wow, Just Wow. I cant Believe how great that looks, your mods are always really nice. I cant wait till you finish the borderlands 2 case. I'm thinking of adding a LCD to one of my phat Xboxs, how did you wire the LCD and Audio?
ozzylow
The Xbox is now finished as of yesterday, and I put it up for sale last night and it is already sold. Will be starting my newest project tomorrow.

Thanks for the nice comments regarding the case, appreciate the nice words and it keeps me interested in modding 360's

nice finish man looks great!! what do u use paint wise for primer colour and lacquer if u dont mind sharing some tips? thank you for all ur help and advise

Is there any chance you could write a tutorial relating to the lcd/headphone jack/av mode switch wiring please?
DragonSlayer1987
http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/tutorial/Xbox_360-HandC-V1_4.pdf

Data sheet for older Xbox 360 but will work with slim, gives the pin outs for the audio/video. You can use that to wire in whatever you would like VGA or add internal screen. The data sheet is pretty detailed it tells you which pins to bridge to tell the Xbox a standard screen is connected. Just wire a spst switch between those pins, for audio jack left and right ground are solderd together to the ground of audio jack.
I remember seeing a tutorial out there once for installing a screen but I can't find it now, if someone doesn't beat me to it I may do one.
