I read here that frequently unplugging the slim (as opposed to the phat) could cause the red dot of death on the power brick. Is this really true though? If so, why? I'm wondering if it is in fact safer to unplug my slim whenever I want. Which is the best way to go?

But to be safe, when you do unplug, start at the wall then the console,.....and when you plug back in, start at the console then the wall.

In theory, this is the correct way to treat electronics generally. So I don't think if you follow these steps, you will have any issue.

I forgot to ask, why do I have to unlug the cord from the console? Couldn't I just unplug from the wall, and leave it at that? Or do I have to remove the power cord from the console as well?

unplugging it from the wall will suffice. We thought you want to unplug your console frequently, because you need to store it somewhere at your house.
