Apologies if this is wrong section, but having looked for a long time I've found little help.. Console was bought off eBay knowing it had the red dot, but didn't say anything else - it had already been opened so maybe tampered with.
So far it seems it's either faulty temp sensor or last owner tried to solder something up and removed a pad but I don't see any areas where soldering has caused any issues
Have cleaned cpu/heatsink and used new paste but still same, although compared to my other slim, the heatsink seem to move a little more.
Thanks for any help!

I would say that you are having extra issues with the heatsink
Not on level or with the proper tension.
If you re-used the Microsoft x-clamp, there's a chance it might be bent out of shape just enough.
You might have to use something aftermarket for a heat sink attachment kit
.... the other thing is the Cpu/Gpu might need a reflow or reball. And I do Reball work - let me know if I might help

Alright, I'll completely swap heatsink with other slim and see what that does firstly. Trial & error, try to pinpoint the exact issue

my feeling is - it's not the heat sink. its the clamp holding the heatsink
Clamp is too bent maybe. But its there in front of you and not me. So it your assessment
And it could be a ball grid issue of the Cpu
Let me know about your findings

Yeah I thought that too so I tried xclamp off other slim, but was still same
I'm pretty sure it's not a trace/pad that's been messed up, normally really easy to spot those
Hopefully it's nothing major as it would be cheaper to just sell the parts and keep the mobo for soldering practice

Hey ... before you chop it up would you give me an opportunity to work on it
Worked on dozens and dozens of Phat 360s. Haven't had a Slim to work on yet.
I use an Infrared ACHI to lift chips and do reballs. I have a repair thread here on Xbox Scene. You can read thru the comments of customers and such

Attempted RGH?
0032 can be caused by a fucked cpu_rst point.

was bought 2nd hand and already like this. - I'm not wanting to RGH this console either like I said in first post, but hopefully can still be a fix
Will have today & tomorrow trying to narrow down the cause as much as I can, and if it needs a reball then I'll have to consider what's best

Is there a good way to add more tension to the clamp? I really don't want to use any 'fix' that involves using bolts

Bending the x clamp adds tension, too much and it can be a nightmare to get it back on, so don't over do it.

what oggy meant is someone probably screwed it up rgh'ing it, then ripped u off.

Yeah, I understand - there's no visible soldering damage, though.
One of the fixes I've found is to the cpu temp sensor trace, is this a good idea though? dont want to cause more damage

..some findings: Tried bending clamps for more tension, and used heatsink+clamp off a working slim and both times the error I get is 0022.
Guessing that could actually be worse

I've got a slim with the exact same error.
I know on a phat it is most often a cold solder joint on CPU.
I also have a falcon that gives the same error when flashed with stock nand, all RGH wiring removed, it only works with the RGH wiring in place and RGH nand image written.
When I get some coolrunners in stock I'm going to install one in the slim and see if I can get it to work.
[I already have the CPU key for the slim so should make things a bit easier.]

Annoying problem

seems related to a bad nand flash or something along those lines - What's the cheapest way I could flash the nand back to original/retail?
According to another forum, depending on how long it takes for the red light to appear, it could be several problems, did 3 timings: once was 22sec & other 2 27sec, which points towards need reflow/reball etc.
..I was skeptical about buying a faulty console, and my worst fears came true. I'm in UK, and people who do such repairs probably aren't available in my area or would be too expensive.

This guy normally does Reballs (http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/reworkbga/?_trksid=p4340.l2559) but he has nothing listed at the moment, also he may only do Phats. It doesnt hurt to ask though

Not something I'm wanting to do. For what I paid I could break it down for parts to sell and get my money back, then buy new so avoid this, lol.
I guess in future if I do buy faulty I'll ask for the error code so I know what I'm getting.. as I thought one red light was normally something simple

IF it is a bad NAND flash, and I have no idea IF it is... but if it is then the ONLY way you'll ever fix it is with an RGH chip, to flash xell and get the CPU keys... THEN you should be able to build an image, I think...
BUT... if your playing with HS tension and getting 0022, that sure sounds like a hardware BGA failure... I'd try reflowing it. BGA failures from heat stress are going to increase drastically as these slim consoles age.

Really confused.. person I bought it off said it was working fine but was knocked over, and since then hasn't worked :/

I'll put a years salary on it not being nand related.

If it was knocked over then I'd say its porbably a CPU problem, a Reflow or Reball should sort it.

I know there's a lot of bad ways to 'fix' 360's, but saw something where the person overheated their console to temporary fix it, but also to tell where the issue was, but is this actually safe to do? Only wanted to try so that I know 100% it needs reflow/reball.
