I am going to attempt to fix a dead Xbox using the following process:

If my attempt is successful, I would like to softmod it. I have read several tuts.
I would then like to attempt to add a PC DVD and one or more HDD.
I was inspired by the following:

It says that it will only work with an updated BIOS.
The tut is dated 2003. So, is this still true?
Does this mean a mod chip BIOS or can the orginal be updated?
If this can't be done to a softmodded Xbox, then I might do it to my modded Xbox but I will need more info on it.

Feel free to point out if I am asking the wrong questions or not drawing the right conclusions from my reading and point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Any endeavor you take with the Xbox will give you great learning experiences.

If you can fix the Xbox, great. If not, you can pick one up for less than $20.

There isn't a huge need for multiple hard drives anymore. Now that hard drive sizes have increased.

Of course there are those that want something no one else has, so, I say go for it. I would try it with some older used drives first so if you fry anything, it won't be money wasted.
