The fact remains that microsoft does whatever they want in order to make money. And they want you to buy a separate Slim hard drive.
Now I don't know how, but I am fairly certain it would be very easy for them to determine that you had a 20gb hard drive in a slim, and since you had to break the seal on the 20gb to get it in there, you're probably breaching their terms somewhere.
But I've been using a 20gb mine for about a year with no issues, so you're probably fine lol.
