HI got a bit of a dilemma which hopefully someone can solve for me
A firend of mine still uses his old xbox for home-brew and xbmc it has a 250Gb hdd in it that has just died
when trying to boot it gives an error 16 on the screen
Now i've had a read up on this and have taken an unlocked drive from another chipped xbox and fitted to this which is supposed to get it to boot so i can then set the clock but i then get error 5 hdd not locked
So now i'm stumped and hoping someone can poinyt me in the right direction to get this up and running again for him

Old xbox with 250gb hdd is A
Chipped xbox is B
You need the eeprom from A to lock donor unlocked hdd from B to get A to accept it.
By the way, error 16 doesn't necessarily mean the 250gb hdd is dead. But please confirm if you have the eeprom first as the resolution method depends on that or suggesting other way like hotswapping.

I have no files from the xbox b and the hdd is dead as it just clicks badly
another method would be great if you have one

If the 250GB is dead - it's dead. Nothing you can do unless you're willing to pay a vast sum of money to a data recovery firm.
I think if you look in the Newbie Chat forum Idotsfan actually answered a similar question there yesterday or earlier today. You'll need to buy or build an eeprom reader to get the eeprom from the Xbox with the dead HDD. Then you should be able to do what you originaly tried.
I'm sure Idotsfan will explain the details if you're uncertain about anything.
