Do you need Xbox Live Dash for the exploit? Has anyone tried this without the Live Dash?

It will work on any dash but it's recommended to use the live updated dash.

If you just replace the files on the root of C with the old dash, games that use the font files in that location will be hosed.

So, you want the dash with the fonts folder.

I'm not looking to overwrite my dash (to risky ). I'm just gonna 007 or mechassault each time. Is it still recommended to update my dash?

In other words, if i'm gonna load 007->evox every time, does the updated dash even matter?

It shouldn't matter if you aren't doing the exploit. The whole reason for updating the dashboard as NeoKast pointed out is so when you replace the font files, it won't mess with the games.
