I bought a cable for networking my PC to my Xbox. I can't get into my xbox for some reason so I am trying to eliminate reasons why. First, cable I bought I asked the salesman at Altex if it was a crossover and he said yes. It doesn't really say on the package but it does have an X/O on each end of the cable....so that means it is a crossover, right? Also, I heard something about going into the PC bios and changing the port setting to EPP. Is that for the NIC card or for the LPT port?

Wow... EPP, ECP. Compatible... thats all for the LPT port ONLY.

Too many questions for me to start asking to trouble shoot the networking problem.

ummmm.... well of coarse anyone can answer....

Are you talking about the ends of the cable themsleves?
The connectors? (Does not matter what is written on them)
If that the case it does not matter just plug the cable in, its the same either way.

You can check for yourself if its a cross over by looking at the wires in the cable connectors
and comparing to the diagrams that are linked.

Well, it's defintley a cross over. One end has a X/O and the other has O/X. I am trying to figure out which end goes to the xbobx and which other goes to the PC. It's also 50ft...that's not going to hurt anyting right?

Does not matter which end goes in which device.... its the same.... like a mirror.
Thats what hubs do for you instead of using a cross over cable.
Your not using a hub or switch thats why you have a cross over cable right?

50 Ft... new cable should not be a problem....
I have about a 75ft drop in my place to one xbox.

100 yards or 300ft is the MAX distance spect'd for a point to point lan line.

Now... plug that stuff in and dig into your network settings on the xbox and your pc....
they should almost match if its going to work.

post what you got for both here and see what you got...

For the Xbox:
Static: Yes
IP: 192.168.03
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.01

for my computer I had it set at: 192.168.04
Sub: 255.255.225.0
using the TCP/IP protocol.


Lemme try it again

For the Xbox:
Static: Yes
IP: 192.168.0.3
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.4 (same but should not matter 192.168.0.1)

My computer
IP: 192.168.0.4 (This is Ok but it really should be set at 192.168.0.1)
SubNet Mask: 255.255.225.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.4 (same but should not matter 192.168.0.1)

Can you ping the xbox 192.168.0.3 from your PC with these settings?

What OS are you using on your PC?
