lol i thought exactly the same thing.... and i havnt seen any SATA->IDE converters either...
i think you just wasted your money there dude.
and i wouldnt want a 10,000rpm hdd in my box anyways, it would produce too much heat.

Plus you wouldn't actually notice any major performance increase. Nope no faster transfer speeds, or write speeds because xbox uses ATA/33 controller, which limits the use of any HDD to that speed.

Buy a cheap 5400RPM EIDE drive. It'll cost about half as much and hold 3 times the number of games.

Of course I am joking. I didn't mean to offend you sorry.
EDIT :Sorry didn't knoe EIDE was Enchanced IDE.

nah it isnt a waste of money, im new to Xbox hacking, this was a learning experience, and can use the drive in my PC

hmm so you say the got 33mhz IDE port, whats the "E" part you added before??
also i gather that the ram is the 2 small square chips? and there is room for 2 more?
how much does ram cost (aus. dollars

) ? and does it help?
i really want to pump the bitch up, HDD space is no concern for me... i want speed, anything for speed, need to drop those loading and saving times!

any advice for a newb would be appreciated

you should really do a search, because adding ram has been discussed many times before, and isnt really worth it even if you had the skills to install it. (it is not easy to install)
and the E in EIDE stands for enhanced. if you want a bigger hdd then take xeero's advice get a cheaper 5400rpm drive for the box.

EIDE has been the standard for some time and replaced IDE a while ago. However, most people just throw around IDE casually. I use 'IDE' most of the time to save myself a keystroke, though sometimes that sneaky 'E' weasels it's way in there.

lol fair enough..
thanks for the compliments!
ummm i used tamiya model paint, they have a nice range of colours, and the paint is very durable (have knocked afew things against it, and it hasnt chipped yet..

its about $10AUD per 100ml can (not really that cheap for paint) but well worth it in my opinion.

to install extra ram is incredibly useless for a new user and 99% useless for most advanced users. I think there is one person on the forums who did it, but im not sure.
To add more RAM you would have to solder about 100 points within like 0.2 mm of eachother..maybe more or less than 100, not sure about the exact number.

For myself soldering points like that wouldn't be a problem, I've soldered smaller, but correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that I read somewhere that adding ram wouldn't make any difference to the game performance.
I can't remember which post I read this on but I thought that it would cause more headaches the good because the games are meant to run with the existing ram and adding more ram would cause problems.
Not sure about this so by all means, anybody who knows please correct me if I'm mistaken.

yea wing, games are limited to use the 64MB it comes with, but ive seen a couple of hack progs that trick the game into using all 128mb... etc

yes, I have also read this too.128mb of ram would be very useful for Linux also.

It's 100-150 pins with pins 0.5mm apart.

who would bother with that? linux is the only use i can see it good for, but why not go and get a 200$ barebone system like this one from
Wal-Martits better than the xbox (for linux) and only like 30$ more

Bah! my point is i want to do major hardware mods! not really/ just case mods, looks arent everything

although the more i hear the more i think that stopping the small amount of lag that alot of games have ( i can imagine what halo2 will be like), i also want the Loading and Saving times atleast halved!

And IDE has also been thrown around to indicate ATA drives, since technically IDE includes both ATA and SCSI drives.
