Just modded my xbox and put mediaplayer in my xbox tonight. Avi files play fine. But I could make the subtitle work....here is the story:

1. I had a bunch of Cd-r where I burned movie avi files and subtitles on. They all work fine in my PC. But all idx/sub files are actually compressed to idx/rar files, which work ok from vobsub in pc. But Xbox mediaplayer can't recognize them?

2. Because I burned mutilanguage subtitles to each movie. So actually they were named like hero.avi, hero.eng.srt, hero.chinese.srt. They all work fine by vobsub in pc. But Xbox mediaplayer can't recognize them? (I heard xbox mediaplayer only recognized exactly same name subtitle...)

Anybody can tell me if my assumptions are correct?

1: XBMP does rar files too wink.gif

2: subtile name must be exactly like the movie name.

Hero.avi
Hero.srt

That will work.

Hero.avi
Hero.english.srt

That will not work.

Easy solution: If, for example, you want english subs for Hero, put the DivX CD in your PC, and FTP hero.eng.srt to your XBMP/Thumbs dir, and rename the file to just hero.srt, then play the avi in XBMP. You should now get the subtitles.

in case I want to play rar-ed subtitle, do I need to install "relax"?

i'm tryin to get subtitles to work on ogm files.is there a similar way?
JayDee
No.

Relax is just a streamserver that uses xns.

It has nothing todo with getting xbmp to read rar:ed subs.

Winder: I´m exactly in your same situation, and I´ve found that MediaPlayer won´t play those subtitles. The .sub file that is inside the rar file is not an standard .sub file, I think they are in graphic format, NOT text format, so XBMP can´t read them, and because of the memory limitations of the Xbox i think it won´t be a quick solution for the matter.

The solution so far for us will be to download from the usual sources the subtitles for all our movies in .srt or .sub format. mad.gif
