is it safe? should i do it. i mean i would love to throw them a few bucks but dont want my info out to the open.

it's usually through paypal which is secure. you don't have to worry about anything being out in the open. that's cool of you to support them even though it isn't necessary.

If you are talking about websites and such, that have PayPal Donation "Jars"... Then you should be safe to donate money without giving out too much info, as long as it is PayPal...

I'd watch out for sites that ask for your credit card number though...
