Sorry to edit your post.
It's been getting fairly cluttered here with all the halo talk. Since it all mostly is hex editing, it makes sense to have a single thread. Maybe this first post, if Shadowcat likes, can list offsets and such that people find in the future, and what they do.


For those of you who do not know how to spawn:
btw: My hex editor is called: HHD Hex Editor


Multiplayer Map (Blood Gultch):

*Note: Before you Play Halo, FTP your xbox and delete everything on drive X, Y, or Z. Which ever it has the cache on it.
Don't worry as none of your saved games will be deleted, they are stored on drive E. Now that you have it clear, continue.

1. Play Blood Gulch on your Xbox. All you need to do is load the map, cause it needs to be decompressed.

2. FTP your xbox, copy cache003. If you can't find the offset LATER, then copy cache004 and try that one.

3. Find a good source for you multiplayer hex editing.

4. Now comes the hard/easy part. Which ever, it depends if you know how to hex edit or sorta use a game shark.
Use HHD Hex Editor and open cache003.map. Then You will see all these numbers. Now Click Ctrl-G, or open Goto Offset. Should be located in EDIT menu. Now, look into your hex editing list.. BG.txt, find something you want to edit, lets say you want MC to shoot rockets with his AR. So look at this in the list: Projectile:AR - 94 44 83 (233DBF8), MAKE sure its "Projectile:".. Now, take 233DBF8 number and Copy And Paste using Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V. You paste it into the Goto Offset Box in HHD Hex Editor. Now Click Find..

5. The box will disapear and you will see it moved to some numbers. Find the place where it blinks. Ex: 3a 43 a6..
So you will notice that it is at: 94 44 83. This is the HEX for a bullet of an AR. Now, look back at your list of codes, BG.TXT. Find Projectile:Rocket - D4 83 98 (2344438).. And WOW, its right above AR on the list. NOW.. See D4 83 98, You are going to replace 94 44 83 with D4 83 98. Your work will glow red. Now you should be done, unless you want to modify it to shoot hogs at other people.

6. Retransfer your edited cache file back onto your X, Y, or Z (Which ever you found it on) partition with FTP and load up Halo.

7. Start a game of Blood Gultch. Have fun, smile.gif

Notice: If you seen Loading... with the music when you boot up halo, you did something wrong. But its rare.

Now For Single Player Maps..

Single Player Map (HALO, SC):

Post any questions you have. If you screw up on the xbox, just delete the cache file and let it reload.

i changed grunts to engineers and warthogs to banshees on SC but it locks up every time after like 30 seconds or somethin
it isnt starting from beginning of level cuz its saved but does it matter?
my save starts me in warthog which was replaced by banshees so i in on of those
locks no matter what i do after 30 seconds or so

Warthog replaced with banshee -
1.) Search for C787F98
2.) Replace C0 7E E6 80 with 24 AA E9 80
3.) NOTE: I added 80 at the end because 3 hex numbers always will have 80 at the end.

Your mistake: When you replaced warhog, it was like this:
C0 7E E6 81, so you did this: 24 AA E9 81 < This is not the banshee.

24 AA E9 80 is the banshee.



VERY IMPORTANT: The last 2 digit 80 rule always applys to 3 sets of 2 numbers: ex. 24 AA E9, you add an 80 at the end, UNLESS it already has the 4th 2 digit number: an example of this one is a Frag grenade: 2C 7D 23 81, it has an 81 at the end, you keep this number at 81.

Hope this helps. Also make sure to start a new game and not from a checkpoint. I found that even after you have it correctly set it still goes black. So start a new game on SC, by selecting another difficulty.

I don't really know if grunts would work as engineer. I don't think engineers have gun holding points or some animation. So the gun would be stuck inside their body or float on their head.

You can do the same trick with the gunless grunt.

Bump into a grunt, take 2 weapons, and then crouch and switch weapons and bump back into yourself, the grunt wont hold the gun in his hand but in his crotch, kinda funny because he shoots with his .... yea ...

strange cuz i was in a banshee but it had no sound of flying and i couldn't shoot
i redid the file and did start new game and it worked

and the grunts are not existing...... i tried to replace em with engineers but now there are neither engineers nor grunts
but when i in banshee, i aim at certain spots and tada it turns red......

so what exactly would be good for swapping with engineers?

Doesn't work with my PAL-Version.
I cannot even find the bytes (I've searched map001 - 005 for C0 7E E6 80 and found nothing)
Could someone post the PAL-ofssets and bytes?

I don't think the enemies will be damaged by the flamethrower or gravity gun, thats why its not listed.

What I did was I made master chief an elite, made marines grunts, and made all aliens marines and master chiefs. Then kill em all.

Not sure about the pal version. Also your looking at the wrong thing. Your suppose to edit cache000.map for single player and cache003.map for multiplayer. These are located in XBOX/X,Y, or Z drive. The one your looking at is a map.

Also try searching with the actual offset and not hex.

big mistake........set plasma rifle to shoot cov dropships hoping it would launch em but nooooooooo drops the fuckers right on top of me lol

Well, first of all, MAP files. The actual map005 and stuff are compressed into certain things. When you load a map it goes into the cache which prepares it to be used and rendered onto the map. This method of load is a lot faster because everything is loaded at the same time, rather than playing off the map file and as you go the map decompresses it. Thats why you edit caches, thats where all the objects and items are stored for on-the-fly use.

what Hex editor are you using? cause im using HHD Hex Editor and is not finding the damn offsets!!! grr.gif

i dont like HHD, it was really buggy for me and the search function didnt work right, i used Hackman, found it free on download.com

Something to try would be to do something to disable guns like i accidently did with assault rifles, i chanced them form AR to the warthog gun, and sence that is mounted, nothing loaded so i had marines running around with no guns, so get rid of the AR and change marines into engis

Try looking for the hex varible instead off the offsets, it will have a 0 infront of it instead of starting with C

i was spawning engineers with pistol projectiles and i fell thru the damn ground as if it went into no clipping mode cussing.gif
after i fell sooooooooo far it like restarted the level and i was using fall guy and never die even lol

Everytime i try halo it uses a different drive as cache. is there any way to make it work without putting the same files on all 3 drives?

I have been playing Halo for a long time and have found a way to affect how far the sniper rifle zooms in, I dont know if anyone else has found out how to do this so I'll post it here.

I'm assuming you know how to get the "cache00x.map" file for blood gulch.

Goto offset 0x02926060

You'll see the following:

00000200 00000040 00000041 35FA8E3C

The first 02, is how many zooms the weapon has, obviously the Sniper Rifle has 2, one for 2x and one for 10x. The next 2 dwords are the Zoom distance. They are floating point numbers. 0x40000000 = 2.0 for the 2x zoom, while 0x41000000 = 8.0 for the 10x zoom distance.

Change the 00000041 to 00000042, and zoom your Sniper Rifle into 10x, you should clearly notice its zooming further. You can modify the 2x to be 4.0 floating point number 00008040 to make the 2x zoom better as well. All of the weapons have these values, you can even put a zoom onto a Shotgun if you want.

Look at how this works, the info on the Sniper Rifle is...

It's at offset 0x028A1C14 + 0x3D8, goto this address 0x28A1FEC

You will find 00000000 00000000 00000000 5077D63D, notice the first 3 dwords are 00's, thats obviously because it has no zoom, so to give it the same zoom as the Sniper Rifle, change the 00000000 00000000 00000000 to 00000200 00000040 00000041

And then your Shotgun will have a 2x and 10x zoom, it wont say 2x/10x on the screen, but it will still zoom in. All weapons could be done in this same way. Also, you could in theory find out where it tells how much damage the weapons do inside the weapon info area, and add the ability to do damage with the newly found flamethrower and gravity guns. I havent found the damage modifier yet, but if I do I'll post it.

Also, the 4th dword after the 00000041, seems to be a range modifier of how close you have to be to target the enemy, I changed the 35FA8E3C part of the Sniper Rifle zoom to 00000046 and my target turns red a while before I get it highlighted on a player, and when you shoot, most of the time it hits the player as well.

Thanks for the info dude! It would be nice to have a 2x, 5x, 10x, and MASSIVE 20x... see accross the WHOLE MAP IN BLOOD GULCH... that would be a KOOL cheat to play with online... and one thing.. what would happen if one tried to use these hacks to play online?

With all of the Halo hacks, you cant use them online unless both sides are using the exact same hacks. If you hack on your end, and they dont, it will say the game is "out of sync" and exit immediately.

i was wondering if anyone could help me, i have the PAL version of halo and everytime i put in a spawn code it always crashes everytime eg rockets instead of AR bullets when ur about to fire it just crashes, BTW do i have to have halo installed on my HD. Thanks

This isnt for Pal, Its for NTSC, But im shure the boys down whoevers working on this are making some Pal files!

I have spent the past few hours playing around, and have made a few discoveries.

1.) The shotgun projectile, only acts as 1 of the 14 that would come out of a shotgun, so therefore, if you used it in a sniper, it would do very little damage.
2.) Vice-Versa, when any projectile is used in the shotgun, 14 of it will come out, so if you used the sniper projectile, 14 sniper bullets will come out.
3.) You can't replace the gun in the ghost with the warthog gun, only replace the projectile.(This may be true will all weapons)
4.) Double Speed, and Full-Spectrum Vision do nothing.(It says picked up flamethrower when you walk over it.)(99% sure)
5.) Nothing can be done with the AR shell particle.(99% sure)
6.) Hacking Halo, can give some really cool results, such as Shotgun with Sniper/Rocket Projectile, Warthog Gun with tank shell projectile and Assault Rifle with rocket projectile!
7.) A hex-editor for the Xbox would be very useful to many.
8.) Even with AR rockets and Warthog shells, the game doesn't get too laggy.

And to make things clear to some people, when you replace projectiles, you keep the rate of fire/style of the gun you're firing from. Not just the visual image of the gun.

I think the FlameThrower does hurt the enemies. I tested it out in Multiplayer and it hurts! Video 1.7MB DivX 5.03 Encoded

It might hurt, but they don't react, It was discussed elsewhere where the grunts are suppose to light on fire and run around screaming.

But anyways, my favorite setup for this is:

Shotgun plasma grenades - now you can stick a tank onto the blood gulch tower.

AR rifle that shoots rockets - more explosives

Ghost that fires tank shells - Big explosions there.

Tanks that create master chiefs.

For single player modes: Don't forget and try the alien mode.
Make all your fellow marines grunts, make yourself an elite, make all the aliens master chiefs and marines: Grunts - Marine, Jackal - Marine, Elite - MC, Hunter - MC?

Then destroy everything, even shoot down echo 4 19, if you have the cheat.

BTW, I also forgot for Alien Mode, Make sure to change Frag Grenades to Plasma grenades and The other way around. Also make pelicans alien dropships and alien dropships pelicans.

My bad, If you want to play in alien mode make sure to have godmode on or you die by being stuck inside the dropship.. :0
