Well it doesnt help, but i think he was just voicing what a lot of peeps r thinking. The pix posted are of an ugly nexgen no doubt. Thank God it will be skinable. Glad to see all of the extra features though. These guys are making a dash that WILL rock!!

My turn now - the original neXgen was great - this new one does look like it's just an abomination of the original solid neXgen foundation ... what's actually been implemented apart from a gfx downgrade ?

I wish people wouldn't keep posting work-in-progress every 'kin week ... why can't you just work quietly and only release news that actually means something like "we have a release" like people used to do .... this scene is getting full of 'not-quite-ready' or gossip-gossips-gossip .... now wonder there's so much flaming going on !

Don't get me wrong - I am not a developer and before you all get on your trumped up stools and say stuff like "Why don't you learn to develop before complaining" ... I'll answer here ... "because I can't be 'kin arsed" !!

Thanks to everyone who has developed for the underground xbox scene - it has been great fun and made me and my xbox very happy .... the only reason I'm writing this is because I am finally so pissed off with losers who don't have a clue about much and obviously have not got a great social life so they need to bitch and complain about other peoples posts when they are just voicing an opinion ...

P.P.S. I'm leaving this scene now because I have a Masters Degree to study for a year - I wonder what dashboards people will be using when I get back?

omg thank you, u said it perfectly, they took the source to a great looking dash and let a photoshop kiddy make some textures that arent even supposed to be mapped onto those models and just threw them on there and it looks like total shit. and finally fyi, that was constructive criticism... just because i injected the word "damn" into the topic doesn't make any difference. as has been said before, xdashos should not be releasing screenshots (VISUAL previews) unless somehow they improved the look of nexgen... which they didn't

do you have any clue how much source code is reused in the average commercial game? do you have any idea how many of those dont use an original engine?

I agree, absolutely. Its like asking for flame wars. We all know what nexgen looks like. Since they released the sources, all we've seen so far has been forum jockeys kissing each others asses and floating their own boats.

I hope it is a success but seeing alpha reviews and teeny-updated screenies kinda make-a-me tink that not much is happening in the lab. I would rather see no mention of this project until it is complete or at least beta worthy.

much respect to the developers who are actually trying to make a solid project with this source. It looks promising and could be as solid an app as xbmp is.

WTF is the point bitching about how the graphics look, the screen shots were released to show people some of the progress in the code.

We have added a lot more functions to the code (cpp and lua code). The skins will need to be re-written before any release is done.

As a coder I dont give a shit about the graphics at this stage, all i care about is that the source code is stable, has the features that we (the deveopment team not the flamers) want.

We have had lots of emails from gfx people offering help, but at this point in time we are not ready.

If people get so upset with the update screen shots we post we will start posting them on a pirvate website and request xbox-scene.com and other xbox news posters do not report on our updates, but if we do that we will be flamed for not providing updates, everyone will think we have given up.

Over the last week we have added a lot of new features, but if re released details of them then we would be flamed saying the gfx's are crap, the color should be pink instead of blue, the screen should be sideways so i can use it when im in bed (no thats not one of the features, hehe) etc... so I guess you will just have to wait.

You know, it is possible to release new features etc w/o posting an "updated" screenshot. I suggest you take a page out of BJ's (creator of mxm) book. He always releases new features not screenshots, because he knows that he has not changed anything graphically. Also, are you telling me that you did not port the lua code over to C++? no wonder this project is taking so long. that should have been a first priority... not posting screenshots. geez.
