Thanks flavor and good find^. would be cool to 'lay over' all the elements of the dash with black80 ones and make the original ones invisible - so we have a whole dash made of wireframe. I've tried but with no success - is this how you would do it:

Tried this but it didn't work (texture2.xbx is totally transparent). Tried it with black80 name as first def, also tried it with no texture on fresh dash. Am i on the right track here?
this is the result:

edit: the marked one has the black 80 applied - usually it looks like opposite (above) it.

I think it does not work with the reflectsurface material. Try material name"Black" instead. It will darken the texture and the wireframe should show up correctly.
But you are basicaly on the right track.
You can also overlay a third object and give it the name "wireframe". Thist should, depending on your wireframe color in hexbe, lighten up the mesh periodicaly.
I lost that damn pill where the wireframe thingie was working.

hey flavor - i was wondering if you wouldn't mind giving me some insight on this 3d stuff. I've been making objects in max but when i go to export them to .ase it only seems to keep a part of the object (usually a flat surface) even with low polycount. i've just found out i'm a complete 3d numbskull - so sorry for probably dumb questions - but would you mind telling me what properties the .ase can have in order to convert it to .xm. i'm using 'xmconverter' cos i get access violations with ase2xm.
this one is a complete fluke and missing heaps of parts

I'll get a small tut ready but we could also meet on irc. CET.
Access violation in ASE2XM happens only when you forgot the most important thing for this converter. You have to apply mapping coordinates in 3dstudio or whatever app you're using. Try some of the extended primitives, like the gengon or something. Don't click on the "generate mapping coordinates" tab, it's useless for the exporter. When you have finished your model go to the modifier tab in 3dsmax and click 'uvw mapping', now depending on your model choose a mapping type. Its good to start with spherical mapping. This will at least not crash the ASE2XM converter.
But mapping a mesh properly is a difficult task. If you ever looked at quake/unreal/whatever model textures you know what I mean.
When exporting to .ASE I leave the exporter on defaults. I think the only important settings anyway are mapping coordinates and geometry, vertex colors or animations and others aren't exported at all.
Ah, could you give me the link to that other XM exporter? Is it on the frontpage? I'd really like to compare both converters.

xmconvertermight have to sign up though and the doc with the program says its the same as as2xm but with multifile support - i dunno though seems a bit mor stable to me.

Thanks MrSelfDestruct as you can see im interested in what can be done to the orb and cellwall at the moment (skinwise).
Thought i might take this opportunity to explain the cellwall above (im getting pm's) This is just a 2d trick done with illustrator, It was made at 150 pixels per inch. i haven't textured it(?) or put anything new in. If you want to see what it looks like in plain view download the skin and look at cellwall.xbx, Morbcellwall.xbx and orbcellwall.xbx
Also the reason you cant successfully covert my .xbxs back to bitmap with fastxbx is because the ones with transparency were made with bundler.
Also if you want a really wild effect with the cellwall check this:
cellwall shenanigans - it is a very simple mod that i may include with a skin at some stage

rrbroadband - thanks for the compliments - buuuuuuuut for my personal use i don't want 5 tabs and i really dont like the clock. You can get the skin from AllXboxSkins.com and add these items yourself. theres plenty of help available for those mods - This is a skin _not_ a dash.

Hi, new skin. this is what i'm putting on my friends boxes at the moment. Hopefully it will encourage them to goto xboxscene when they've got a problem instead of ringing me with dumb questions when i'm trying to get layed (like 'which button do i press to go back' - same as before - the fricken back button!)
It has more mods than just whats in the skin.xip so to get it you'll have to hit me up in the chan.
mods:
musicfix, white tab fix, fuckdb drivespace, custom sysinfo, toned down 'floating' (screenwaver), old orbring, full texturisation. Cellwall waver to spinner ,most editable graphics are custom. inverted cellwall. orb inside orb with rotating text that says 'xboxscene', the little XS-scene guy pulses in and out of the middle of the the tHc orb -
short crappy video (Xvid). closed in soundtrack and playlist panels, tracklines put back into hdd sub - trying to get em into dropdowns in control panel but allignnment is an issue. custom (no green ring) orb on mainmenu/hddmnu/and subs - but you can still see tHc orb on settings submenus.





Creds:tHc - dash, fuckdb - drivespace mod, kanaberra - textures. all XSscene codesters, chevy and BSX.

hey log, was going to write a long explaination on how to do it - but heres a super simple way.
get yourself a blank .xbx,you'll find a few in any of my skins, The size doesn't matter if you just want to get rid of them. make two copies name one 'xtex.xbx' and the other 'xtex2.xbx' dropem in mainmenu5.xip overwriting the old ones - voila! (popping sound)
to slow down the cell wall go to hardrive.xap in default xip search for '//gas' you'll see a value above one that says 'rpm 3' change it back to '2' (you big girls blouse

)

. Thought i'd better mention this:
usually all my skins are made of image files 100% made by me from the ground up. The one with the big wave^^ however is not. i googled for a decent resolution wave picture and on a bout page 17 i found that background. It is actually a digitalblasphemy wallpaper (that didn't come from the awesome DB site) so credits and thanks to the original author whoever that may be - the watermark has been left in place.

hey log, no problem although you realize its just one skin right? it has background switching (white button) but you can add yr own and replace mine - just makes sure they are 258k in size (ie - no tansparency). and use the different triggers and thumbclicks to get the other views.
