I am using xbmp 2.4 cvs compile 6-14-03

I am trying to watch these movies that are in avi format. I saved them all on a dvd. I checked the properties just to see if there were any differences in the avi's.
Each of them:

is 700-800MB
is compressed with MS Mpeg4 V2
have 128Kbps audio and video bitrates
are 480 x 360 resolution

There are six videos on the DVD. Of the 3 that play, one of them can't fast forward or rewind. When I try to load up the 3 that don't play, I get garbled sound and a nice screensaver. Any ideas on what could be wrong here?

EDIT: If it isn't obvious what is wrong with them, could anyone point me in the right direction as to what I can do do any avi file to make sure that xbmp can play them?

Bump, but also:

I burned the DVD with the same files, but forced them to be in a different order (instead of abacus.avi and zamboni.avi I renamed them to 01_zamboni.avi and 02_abacus.avi)
This time, the same files that played before were not playing now and the files that were not playing before were playing fine this time.
I tested it on two different DVD's and got the same results...

Can anyone explain to me why this would be?
I never imagined that the physical position on the DVD would make any difference.

I get a similar problem when trying to watch .bin files from VCDs. Seems totally random. When I extract the file from the .bin it always works fine.
